GREENVILLE, S.C. --- The mother of a 34-year-old woman whose severed hands and feet were found in separate bags this week said Tuesday that her daughter knew her life was in danger.
"She said someone wanted to kill her," Jessie Mae Harris said of conversations she had last week with daughter Mekole Michelle Harris. "She said that she was trying to get her life straight."
Authorities on Tuesday said the body parts found a day earlier outside two homes in this city were cut from Mekole Harris, a mother of four with a lengthy criminal record whose body has yet to be found. Greenville County Coroner Parks Evans said fingerprints were used to identify the hands, and the feet also are believed to be from Ms. Harris. Mr. Evans said it's unlikely she's still alive.
Family and friends said Ms. Harris tried to be as caring as possible, but that she was a longtime drug addict whose children live with relatives.
Police records show that Ms. Harris had been convicted of drug and prostitution charges as recently as last year.
"She was a kind, loving person," her mother said. "She never hurt anybody. The only person she hurt was herself."
Jessie Mae Harris, of Fountain Inn, said she did not know who had threatened her daughter, but that she imagined the worst when authorities called her this week. "When they called here and said it was about something urgent I said, 'She gone.' "

About the most horrific story I have read in a while....My profound sympathies and prayers going out to here family and to her children....Drugs and Alcohol are two of the devil's greatest accomplishments....I pray they find whomever did this and throw them under the jail or better yet chain them up in the middle of town and let them survive there until they leave this world.....

I didn't care for the headline. No one deserves to die in this manner, just as jewel said. My prayers for Mekole's troubled soul, her children, her immediate and extended family and her frightened community. I hope the perpetrator/s will come to justice, if not in this world, most assuredly justice will be served in the next.

Sorry, but I must disagree with her mother who says she never hurt anyone. She hurt many people, mostly her 4 children. Her parents and other relitives, if they loved her, then she hurt them also. We use the excuse that "We aint hurting no one but ourselves" as a way to do what ever we want and not feel guilty. But anyone who abuses themself the way this woman did. She did hurt a lot of people Edgefield, but no one deserves to die like that. Even if someone did deserve to die like that, it would be a monstrous thing to do, and I would doubt the sanity of anyone that does this to another human being.

the sick ones are those who pretend to care after the fact. you don't know this woman, her family, or anyone she dealt with. You don't care about the person that lives down the street from you, why do you put on like you care about someone you have never met. Yes, it's tragic, its shocking, it's sad. But don't go all righteous with your prayers and sympathy for the family. It's only the shock factor of the manner of death that gets your attention. you silly fools.

Man's inhumanity to man is the greatest sin of all and as long as we allow it to persist, to exist, or take the lead in life, then we will always have sad, tragic stories such as this.
