Letter to the Editor
Have you have noticed some recent improvements that have helped our west Augusta gateway?
Both sides of Washington Road have been edged and the street swept from the Broad Street exit to Pleasant Home Road. River Watch Parkway from Pleasant Home Road to Martin Marietta railroad tracks, has had the street swept along the median curbs.
Martin Marietta has always had beautifully landscaped entrances. The River Watch Center temporary wooden sign has been removed, and flowers were planted around the attractive permanent River Watch Center sign. The Masters Industrial Park trucking company, which backs up to the West Hills neighborhood, put up a privacy fence and added gravel to the parking area. Many years ago, the Augusta Ready Mix owner built a wall and planted trees, which have created a beautiful entrance into their business off River Watch Parkway.
Let's make 2008 the year to stop littering our roadways; keep our curbs or ditches cleared; keep storm drains clear; straighten leaning signs; and trim any limbs hanging over the sidewalk or curbs to less than 8 feet, to help walkers or postmen. If you see "work from home" litter signs on the rights-of-way or light poles, remove them.
Do you have a 3-inch number on your home or mailbox, or a 4-inch number on your business to help emergency workers or meter readers? This ordinance is the same for Richmond and Columbia counties.
Please show you care about your community, and help those who serve Augusta each day.
