North Augusta alum sets school record
In Greenville, N.C., former North Augusta standout Ben Lown tied for medalist honors in the Ironwood Pirate Intercollegiate at Ironwood Golf and Country Club, leading his Newberry team to a second-place finish.
The event, which concluded Sunday, was shortened to 36 holes because of rain.
Newberry was one of only two Division II teams competing alongside Division I teams in the event. St. John's took first place.
Lown, a freshman, shot 69-69 to tie for the top spot at 6 under par with St. John's Keegan Bradley .
Lown's total of 138 broke the school record of 140, set earlier this season.

Lynx get top scorer back for playoffs
Augusta Lynx coach Bob Ferguson announced Monday that Aaron Slattengren , the team's leading goal scorer this season, has returned for the ECHL Kelly Cup playoffs.
Slattengren returns to the team for the first time since Jan. 15.
Prior to his call-up to play for the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League, the 26-year-old scored 28 goals in 33 games for the Lynx.

GreenJackets make roster adjustments
In Charleston, W.Va., the Augusta GreenJackets were down seven runs after two innings en route to a 7-1 loss to the West Virginia Power.
Augusta got its lone run on a solo home run by designated hitter Thomas Neal .
Second baseman Zelous Wheeler and designated hitter John Alonso hit homers for the Power.
- The GreenJackets made several roster moves Monday.
Left-hander Madison Bumgarner , the Giants' top pick in last year's draft, and right-hander Waldis Joaquin were transferred to extended spring training.
Right-hander Orlando Yntema and left-hander Craig Clark were transferred to Augusta's roster.
Jaguars quarterback signs an extension
Quarterback David Garrard has signed a contract extension with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Terms of Monday's deal were not released. But Garrard and his agent had been looking for something similar to the six-year, $67.5 million deal Dallas quarterback Tony Romo signed last season.
The 30-year-old Garrard is coming off his best season. He completed 64 percent of his passes for 2,509 yards and 18 touchdowns.
- The New Orleans Saints signed veteran cornerback Aaron Glenn .
Haynes' two homers cannot lift Jaguars
In Dahlonega, Ga., North Georgia pounded out 15 hits in winning 15-4 over Augusta State, sweeping a three-game, Peach Belt Conference series.
Anders Oster had a grand slam, and Rob Flanigan had two homers for the Saints.
The Jaguars' Clay Haynes also hit two home runs.
Augusta State falls in 13 to Armstrong
In Savannah, Ga., Augusta State fell in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader to Armstrong Atlantic State.
Augusta State fell in the 13th inning of Game 1 after Sara Morris knocked in the game's only run with an RBI double. It was the longest game in school history for Armstrong Atlantic State.
Augusta State fell 5-2 in the second game.
Pacers squads both notch shutout wins
In Columbia, the visiting USC Aiken men's and women's squads both posted their second consecutive dominant performance in defeating Benedict.
The men's and women's teams won 8-0 and 9-0, respectively.
