Brown's children will pay if they interfere

James Brown's children may end up paying if they try to stop the sale of their father's belongings.

After the two court-appointed attorneys overseeing James Brown's estate complained that the children were interfering with the auction to be held by New York-based Christie's, Judge Jack Early has ordered that the sale continue and that anyone who tries to stop it pay for losses up to $2 million.

Court papers filed late last week by Robert Buchanan say that five of Mr. Brown's children were "directly and intentionally interfering" with court orders for the auction, which is to be held by Aug. 1.

Court papers say that the singer's children have so far refused to pay $400,000 in overdue estate taxes they owe.

Mr. Brown paid Millions in

Mr. Brown paid Millions in taxes when he was alive. I say this is an opportunity for the people of Georgia to take a stand against "estate taxes". We pay taxes all our lives. Must you display your greed after we die as well? Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is a thing of the past in America. We are now officially worse than the British colonial figure we defeated in the revolutionary war. Selling a dead mans' private, personal property that his children might want to keep for memoriam is about as low as you can get. Shame on the state, AND the courts, And especially the greedy lawyers he left behind.

Those rants and raves sure

Those rants and raves sure have changed since yesterday. I click on rants and raves and get "across the area" rather fast. Well, if the kids of James Brown paid the property taxes like they were suppose to, this auction would never have taken place. Property taxes even after one is dead still is property tax on next of kin. Its been this way for since I was born.

You do realize you only pay

You do realize you only pay estate taxes if your estate is worth over one million dollars. I guess that's just too bad for all you millionaires writing in and I guess dead people should not have to pay their bills. Thats why the Republicans want to get rid of it, so the rich can keep on getting richer. Thats whats wrong with America! Property taxes don't neccessary go to the next of kin, they are paid out of the estate and follow the property as per the will, who could be anyone. Since I was Born.

True Little Lamb and an

True Little Lamb and an "estate" isn't necessarily what people think it is either! My folks worked their way up from being extremely poor to earning a decent living, saving and investing wisely. They are not millionaires but when you liquidate everything, they have way more than I do. Why should MORE of their hard earned money be given to the government after they have worked so hard all their lives, even if they did have over a million?
