Gamecocks honor former Josey star
Dominique Archie , a sophomore from Augusta, was named the outstanding defensive player during South Carolina's men's basketball awards banquet.
Archie, a former Josey stand-out, shared the outstanding rebounder award.
Pirates top Pacers in Peach Belt game
In Aiken, Armstrong Atlantic State built an eight-run lead and held on to beat 13th-ranked USC Aiken 10-7 Friday in a Peach Belt Conference game.
The Pirates, ranked 24th in Division II, led 10-2 before the Pacers scored three runs in the eighth and two in the ninth to pull within three. But USC Aiken's Chris Grandinetti fouled out to third to end the game.
Chris Smith homered and drove in two runs for Armstrong Atlantic (22-9, 10-6). Joey Davis , who had three hits, and Kenny Cail also had two RBI.
Gary Owens had three hits, including a homer, and two RBI for USC Aiken. Chad Jacobsen and Gary Asbill also drove in two runs for the Pacers (29-9, 10-6 PBC).
USC Aiken starter Scott Wandless (6-1) allowed all 10 runs on 10 hits in 5 w innings.
LSU QB will regain full status on team
Louisiana State University quarterback Ryan Perrilloux will not play in today's spring game, but he will be back to "full membership" on the team as of Sunday and will accompany the team next week to the White House to accept congratulations from President Bush .
Coach Les Miles suspended Perrilloux in February after he missed a team meeting, skipped some classes and was late for a handful of conditioning workouts.
- Florida wide receiver Percy Harvin will have heel surgery next week, but coach Urban Meyer expects the speedy playmaker to be fine for fall practice.
- Ex-Florida State quarterback P.T. Willis , who has been the radio color analyst for Seminoles games the past 10 seasons, is being replaced. Willis said he was told he was too critical of the team's performance.
Ex-Bengal receiver released from jail
Former Cincinnati Bengal receiver Chris Henry was released from jail Friday after spending an extra night there because no one was available to provide a court-ordered monitoring device.
Henry was cut by the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday, a few hours before he was arraigned on charges of assault and criminal damaging.
Nadal, Davydenko reach final in Sony
In Key Biscayne, Fla., Rafael Nadal advanced to the Sunday final of the Sony Ericsson Open by beating Tomas Berdych , 7-6 (6), 6-2, Friday.
Nadal will face Nikolay Davydenko, a 7-6 (5), 6-2 winner over Andy Roddick .
Boxer sues steroid dealer for slander
"Sugar" Shane Mosley is accusing convicted steroids dealer Victor Conte of slander for telling newspapers he saw the boxer knowingly inject steroids.
Mosley filed suit against Conte in federal court, accusing the founder of the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative of making the allegedly false statements to boost book sales. Conte is planning to write a book about the steroids scandal.
Mosley has said he unwittingly used steroids produced by BALCO.
- A San Francisco jury found former cyclist Tammy Thomas guilty of lying to a grand jury about her steroids use.
The first person in the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative investigation to go to trial, Thomas was convicted of three counts of perjury and one count of obstruction of justice. The jury acquitted her of two counts of perjury.
