Democrats are in a party of hypocrisy

  • Follow Letters

I just got a healthy dose of laughter after reading Lowell Greenbaum's March 19 letter ("Bush leaving dismal fiscal legacy").

He rants against, who else, President Bush and those evil Republicans. This time, he cites fiscal irresponsibility. This is the ultimate case of the pot calling the kettle black. Greenbaum seems blissful to ignore the obvious fact that Congress, not the president, controls spending in our nation, and Greenbaum's "compassionate" Democratic Party has controlled Congress for more than a year now. This blatant fact explains why legislation to halt or at least limit congressional earmarks recently went down in defeat. And, just so you won't run out of things to worry about, bills requiring a balanced budget by a certain time frame are not even brought up for debate anymore. Congress simply doesn't like you, the taxpayers, telling them how they can spend your money!

Just to show Lowell Greenbaum that this Republican can be realistic, I blame both parties for Congress spending like drunken sailors on a Cinderella liberty. The difference is that I know this. Lowell Greenbaum obviously has only nibbled on the reality sandwich that the rest of us have to consume each day. To quote Scripture, "There is none so blind as he who will not see." It's high time Greenbaum and the rest of the liberals took the blindfolds off and looked at their own hypocritical party!

Mr Kinbrough, Greenbaum wouldn't be doing his job if he wasn't a radical partisan. As far as congressional spending goes, about 80% of a congressmans income is from "lobbyists" that help them decide how to spend tax money. Don't look for congress to act fiscally responsible before the next revolution.

DeborahElliott2

I would say something but I better not....Well, Ok, Just one thing....Fire them ALL!

DeborahElliott2

Pat, you shouldn't look at Congress to be fiscal if their lives depended on it, that is why we are headed for a recession and NO WAY OUT! This is why I laughed at our sorry excuse of a rebate cause by the time we get it, we will be SOOOOOOO Broke! Congress increased our taxes before we even get this rebate, so it tells you of the utter stupidity of Congressional thinking.

Lowell Greenbaum rants against President Bush and the evil Republicans, the pot calling the kettle black, Greenbaum ignores facts, OMG I FIGURED IT OUT, Greenbaum is Cain!!!!!!

UncleBill

Let's see, the last Republican president to have a balanced budget was..... EISENHOWER!

UncleBill

By the way, we don't need to tax and spend, but neither do we need to spend and charge it.

Republicant

More like Sailors on a port visit to Singapore on Charlie liberty after 66 days at sea! Get it straight! LOL.

mgroothand

Republicant & Charles Kimbrough: Drunken sailors spend only their OWN money.

Well said Charles well said. Oh by the way rumor has it that Bush and his cohorts are responsible for all hurricane, tornado, and earthquake activity over the past 10 years or so. Also they have a direct connection of gobal warming that will soon bring about the 2nd ice age. Shame on you Mr. President and again I say Shame.........

You are only partially correct in your statement Justus, about the tilt to the Republican Party in the South during the Civil Rights Era. As the south became an economic force with many cities expanding their population, jobs were added, and more people moved in, they were attracted by lower taxes, smaller government programs, and fiscally conservative government. The effect of the south leaning towards the Republicans was two fold, both economic and racial. Do not paint it as strictly a racial issue, to do so would be to deny other possibilities. Yes, Go Obama....Go away.

Patti hit the nail on the head. Greenbaum is just doing his job-it was probably written by Howard Dean and forwarded to all. Greenbaum is actually a very intelligent and kind gentleman. I hate to see him as this kind of hack, but it is politics. I can't fathom why people aren't disgusted with both parties. I think both parties are in cahoots pointing fingers to take our attention off of their blatant criminal activity.

Since the first Republican denounced amphibious life, they've been croaking that "government is like a business." If that simplistic metaphor is apt, then the business of this government has been to levy a massively punative Greed & Incompetence Tax on us all. The damage is done. No cheerleader, Gorgon or burnt-out patriot can turn it around. With "friends" like these, who needs terrorists?!

christian134

Justus4 your extraordinary obession with "the anti-white" extinction is just.....oh racist... for want of a better word. What right do you have for making these remarks and then in the same breathe scream loudly that all whites are racist against the black population at large? When you get down to it, my friend, it doen't make much sense. Try speaking on the country drawing together as Americans...that is a something worth fighting....As far as Obama....He can take a flying leap back into the senate where he was most unproductive and unheard....

injustus4, The Republican Party was created in 1854 to oppose the pro-slavery party, the Democrats (also known as the Slave-ocrats at the time). By 1860 the first Republican President, Abe Lincoln, was elected. His election also shifted both houses of Congress to the Republican side & every Northern Governor after the 1860 election was a Republican. Freeing the slaves (The Confiscation Act) was a Republican achievement - every single Republican in Congress voted for it, every single Democrat opposed it. The 13th Amendment (outlawing slavery) was passed by a Republican congress because they knew the Democrats would one day rule again. The 14th Amendment (guaranteeing rights to former slaves) was opposed by every single Democrat in Congress. In 1869 98% of Republicans voted for giving Blacks the right to vote, 97% of Democrats voted against it. The 1875 Civil Rights act (that outlawed discrimination in public accomodations) was a Republican bill (unfortunately it was ruled unconstitional by the Supreme Court). Essentially this same bill became the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which received a higher percentage of Republican votes than Democrat. More to come . . .

At this time of celebrating the legacy of MLKjr we have Justus espousing everything to the contrary that this great man believed. You should be ashamed. Humility and empathy will lead to forgiveness, your anger and hatred espouse your lack of humanity. I have a nephew who opened his door one day and several young black youths jumped him and nearly beat him to death (just random violence). With your mentality I should hate all blacks and go out and kill a few for revenge-you are one sick puppy. The Buddha and Christ both believed anger and hatred will destroy ones humanity. We have living proof.

injustus4, To continue . . . Blacks became Republicans during this time for the very reasons you cite: they looked at who was representing them. Every single African-American in Congress, House and Senate, until 1935 was a Republican. The first Black member of Congress was a Republican. The first Black Governor was a Republican. Two Republican women were co-founders of the NAACP. When Republican President Teddy Roosevelt invited his fellow Republican Booker T. Washington to the White House for dinner, Democrats said it was a "scandal & an atrocity." In 1947 the Republican owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers integrated pro-baseball when he hired fellow Republican Jackie Robinson to play ball. In the South, the terrorist wing of the Democrat Party, the Ku Klux Klan, virtually destroyed the Republican Party. In the 60s and 70s the Democrats did not become Republicans, they became Dixiecrats and only after the Republicans secured civil rights for all did they return to their Democrat party. Then they decided to take credit for what Republicans achieved. And that, my friend, is the rest of the story.

Well said last word.

Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative - if it involves elected members of Congress, they have one goal - to remain in power and increase that power. So they play the blame game to get votes and ensure their careers.

Republicans spend and spend (a recent survey showed the first four top pork barrel spenders were Republican Congress/Senators) and the Democrats want to tax and spend to bail us out of financial troubles.

I'm not sure that anyone out there cares but the quote at the end of the article is NOT from the Bible but from a song. Other than that the article offers a good point.

griesella

rjh..I think you are right. He is Cain.

I agree with Bizarro..--------------------Having said that, conservatives are saying that Social Security is going broke. The liberals say that it will be okay until 2041. Liberals wants the money going for the war to be converted towards more ear-marks & entitlements. I think it is human nature to disagree, especially when it comes to finances. And then, as we can see here on our local level, it is always someone elses fault (or party)-''Don't you dare point your finger at us..it was the other bozos."

Justus4- You might wanna check your history books again... Last time I checked, it was the leading Dems that opposed civil rights... That would explain the likes of West Virginia's own... Grand Dragon Byrd. Who was the Dem governor to stand in front of the school until Federal troops were brought in? Stop reading bumper stickers and check your facts...

grouse

Wow..."Democrats have been in Congress for a year now" and yet when you bring up that Bush was in office for nine months before 9/11, it happened because of Clinton's negligence! The Republican-led Congress was in charge for how long and you're now blaming the Democrats. Give me a break! The Democratic Congress does not have the votes to be effective and you now it. Hopefully, that will change soon.

Retarded Army, like the writer points out, the DIMs have been in control of Congress over4 a year now and what do we have? National Defense legislation allowed to lounge in the House though the Senate passed it some time back, the dollar in the toilet, high priced gas, and now a crash in the mortgage business/home ownership. Too busy holding wasteful hearings trying to get crap to stick on Bush to do anything constructive, like allow drilling in ANWAR and other oil rich areas here while whining abut it being Bush's fault gas is over $3.00, or give the intelligence people the tools they need to combat our enemies, not to mention more earmarks than last year and now a massive redistribution of wealth with so-called "rebate" checks that ain't rebates for those that don't pay taxes. The local DIMocRAT gauleiter Greenbum needs to wake up and address his own party of hypocrites before continuing his usual drivel about Bush. The Republican Party ain't what it used to be and most of us conservatives will be glad to see Bush go, but to call Bush fiscally irresponsible (and I agree) but not address the same to his own Party is the epitomy of that hypocricy.

jack

UncleBill, the last President to have a balanced budget was BJ Cliton when Newt Gingrich and the Republican House shoved it down his throat in 1994 or 95.

Justus4, spewing lies again, I see. It was a white Congress that wrote the Civil Rights Act of '69, a white President (LBJ) who signed it, and a white Congress who gave blacks equal rights under th 14th Amendment. All thos anti-civil rights whites didn't cross over as you will still find plenty around these days iin the DIMocRAT Party along with the black racists like you. Geez, you are as ignorant as my shoe.

jack

Word, you have just ruined Justus4's day with FACTS and the TRUTH. He just can't handle such. I believe justus4 is a ne'er do well black who blames whitey for his own bad decisions in life and his not doing so well in our society today as so many other blacks are doing. My best friend is a black man who is a self made millionalre because he made the right life decisions (education/hard work). Unlike justus and other blacks on this forum, he refused to play the victim game and listen to the likes of Jesse Jackass, Al Charlatan or Jeremiah Wright.

There is a reason the political sign for the Democrat party is a donkey... its because they're all jackasses!
