AUGUSTA, Ga. - Howard "Lee" Watkins, 69, of Tobin Street, Augusta, was entered into rest Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Doctors Hospital. He was a native of Toledo, Ohio moving to Augusta in 1996. Mr. Watkins was a diesel mechanic retiring in 1996, He was the custodian for Cokesbury United Methodist Church, and he was a member of the United Methodist Men's Club and the Thursday morning men's prayer group. Mr. Watkins is survived by his wife Joy; daughter Jeri (Bryan) McCarty, Aiken, SC; stepsons Chuck (April) Watkins, Augusta, Chris (Amy) Watkins, Augusta; grandsons: Jason (Shelia) McCarty, Fort Collins, CO, Evan McCarty, Columbia, SC and Ryan McCarty, Fort Collins, CO; step grandchildren: Kayla Watkins, Makenzie Watkins and Jackson Watkins, all of Augusta and great-granddaughter: Raelynn McCarty, Fort Collins, CO. Mr. Watkins was predeceased by his wife of 35 years, Darla Jean Russell Watkins in 1991; his mother Gladys; father Howard and three brothers: Jay, Jack and Larry. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, April 4, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with the Rev. Perry Shelfer of Martinez United Methodist Church and Rev. Roger Bennett, Overcomers Outreach officiating. Burial will be in Toledo, Ohio. Memorials may be made to Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 2005 Windsor Spring Rd., Augusta, GA 30906.
