AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Ronald Lee Hoffman 69, of Augusta died at his residence on Sunday, March 30, 2008. He was the beloved husband of Doris Davis Hoffman. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Elliott Sons Funeral Home on Lumpkin Road. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 2:45 p.m. A native of Battle Creek, Michigan, Ronald was the son of the late Ernest Hoffman and the late Arlene Hoffman. Mr. Hoffman was a twenty year retired Special Forces soldier who served in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal 6th award, the Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze stars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, The Presidential Unit Citation, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm 2nd award, Parachutist Badge, national Defense Service Medal with 2 O/S Bars, Meritorious Unit Citation, Vietnam Civil Actions Unit Citation, Army Commendation Medal and Expert Rifle. He was active in a number of veteran's organizations including the Jack C. Fortune American Legion Post 205 where he was the Finance Officer and Judge Advocate for a number of years, Forty and Eight Voiture 719 where he served as the Chef de Gare and the Grand Cheminot. Ronald served as the Commander of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 13 for a number of years and Finance Officer for the DAV Chapter 10. He was a member of the National Order of TRENCH Rats, Dugout #475 where he served as the Golden Rodent, the Silver Rodent, the Blue Rodent, the Black Plague, and the Red Eyed Gnawer. Additional survivors include five children, James Lakeman and his wife Allyson of Greensboro, Ga. Cathy Sors and her husband Tim of Goose Creek, S.C. Dan Hoffman and his wife Janice of Fayetteville, N.C., Wendy San Angelo and her husband Michael of Tucson, Az., and Jennifer Lakeman of Augusta, Ga.; eleven grandchildren, Colby Ann Lakeman, Jameson Lakeman, Davis Lakeman, Ryan Fuller, Will Sors, Jonathan Covault, Jesse Covault, Joseph Covault, Jayden Hoffman, Joanna San Angelo and Megan Riley; his step mother, Betty Hoffman, Battle Creek, Michigan; one sister Norma Jean Van Schoick and her husband Robert of Venice, Florida; one brother Gerald Brainard of Detroit, Michigan; and one nephew, Terry Van Schoick of Detroit, Michigan.
