Man is sought for alleged molestation
Police are looking for a man wanted in the alleged molestation of a family member on Saturday.
Timothy Roberson, 22, of 2409 Saint Thomas Trail, is wanted on one count of child molestation, according to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office. He is known to frequent the Tobacco Road and Windsor Spring Road area. Anyone with information on Mr. Roberson can call the sheriff's office at (706) 821-1080.
Realtor will run for county commission
Commercial Realtor Charles Allen officially announced Monday his intention to run for the District 3 Columbia County Commission seat.
Mr. Allen, a lifelong Evans resident, hopes to replace retiring Commissioner Diane Ford.
Husband of county Tax Commissioner Kay Allen, Mr. Allen, 64, called himself a conservative who believes in disciplined fiscal management of his business.
"The government should be no different," he said. "I support an efficient and conservative government."
Other campaign goals include improving the county's roads, expanding its recycling program and adding greenspace.
Mr. Allen once served two terms on the county commission in the 1980s.
The only named opponent facing Mr. Allen in the District 3 race is Columbia County Planning Commission Chairwoman Deanne Hall.
Butler band director steps down
A Butler High School teacher who is under investigation for inappropriate interactions with one of his students, has resigned his position.
Anthony Shelton stepped down as the school's band director last week, but that hasn't affected the school board's internal affairs investigation of the allegations.
Richmond County traffic report
- East Boundary will be closed from Broad Street to Laney-Walker Boulevard until April 10, according to a Richmond County Engineering Department news release. The closure is part of the East Boundary Improvement project.

Oh, don't tell a Richmond County neighborhood meeting you'll be willing to pay more taxes for improvements in law enforcement. The lady representing the tax office perked up, said, "really?" then busied herself taking the woman's name and address down, the next thing you know her house was taxed more than triple her neighbors' and she had to go downtown and protest. She didn't mean for her to pay the increase by HERSELF! File under: No good deed goes unpunished.

There is a distinct between someone who sells and manages personal property and a developer, sounds like you have an ax to grind and are trying to hang a label on the Allen's.

I spent many afternoons watching band practice. Mr. Shelton did a very good job with the band. He was alwalys a great role model to many students. I never witnessed him croossing the line with anyone. He was always helpful when I needed information about the band cleared up. Mr. Shelton needed support from the adminstration to protect him and the students during after school activities. Most adminstrators leave school before the students get on the bus.
