Augusta Regional Airport parking prices to increase

Beginning Tuesday, parking prices at Augusta Regional Airport will increase to $8 per 24-hour period for the short-term lot and $6 for the same period in the long-term lot.

The first 40 minutes in all parking lots will continue to be free, according to an airport news release.

Officials also will revert back to having two short-term parking lots and one long-term lot after having just one large lot during the terminal construction project. The change is needed because the parking area directly in front of the main terminal has been consistently reaching capacity, the release states.

Two people hit by vehicle

Two people were struck by a vehicle early Saturday on 15th Street in Augusta, according to a Richmond County dispatcher.

The dispatcher said the incident occurred about 2 a.m., but no other information was available late Saturday.

Woman shot, killed at home in Dearing

A woman is dead and a man was taken into custody after a shooting at a Dearing home Saturday night, authorities said.

McDuffie County sheriff's Sgt. Mike Hobbs told The McDuffie Mirror that the shooting occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. at an address on the 3600 block of Larkin Road.

The shooting apparently occurred in a rear bedroom of the single-wide mobile home, Sgt. Hobbs said. The woman was believed to be shot in the head, according to authorities. Officials with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation also responded to the scene. The woman's name hadn't been released late Saturday. The suspect, whose name also wasn't known, was seated on a couch in the home and placed in protective custody.

Two-vehicle collision leaves 1 dead, 1 hurt

Georgia State Patrol troopers were investigating a fatal two-vehicle wreck Saturday night on Wire Road near the Thomson Country Club.

One person was dead and authorities were attempting to free another person who was trapped in one of the vehicles . The wreck occurred shortly after 10 p.m. and was a head-on collision as the two vehicles were rounding a curve, authorities said.

Members of McDuffie County Fire/Rescue Services, along with an extrication unit, also were on the scene.

No other information was immediately available late Saturday.

There is more to the shooting

There is more to the shooting story than we are being told. GBI is involved and the suspect is placed in protective custody. The suspect may be in law enforcement.

Why bother to report it in

Why bother to report it in the news when they aren't ready to give the names yet? It just gives everybody with any relatives or friends in the area a panic attack. One TV station gave an exact address as being in the 3300 block instead of 3600 block, although there are no listings at all in the 3300 block. Is there even a 3300 block? So I'm guessing the newspaper has the block right and the tv station has the address wrong.

He shot and killed her and

He shot and killed her and then sat down on the couch. Protective custody. His? protection? He killed someone and he is being protected. I never understand that. When they transport him, they will probably put a bullet proof vest on him.

I rarely comment in this

I rarely comment in this section but enjoy reading the posts. patriciathomas, you are the most lame-minded poster I've heard from on the r&r. At a minimum, you could have made us think that you actually gave a $%#@ about the victims. Read your post again and see if you can rethink it in your head. If not, maybe all the other people in your head need to shut up, as you do. Sometimes it's not about what you say. It's about how you say it and when you say it. Glad you got your rocks off by the AC reporting crashings and shootings. BTW, how serious do you think the family took you when you posted your "oh yeah" sympathies?? You are lost!!!
