Walking for MS

The Aiken Multiple Sclerosis Walk will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Aiken County Library. Participants are urged to raise money before the walk. For information, contact Matt Honeycutt at matt.honeycutt@nmss.org or (704) 525-5906.

Planetarium shows

The DuPont Planetarium will present In My Backyard at 7 p.m. and Cruising Through the Constellations at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and April 18 and 19. The planetarium is on the campus of the University of South Carolina Aiken, 471 University Parkway.

Tickets are $4.50 for adults, $3.50 for seniors and $2.50 for children from 4K to 12th grade. Call (803) 641-3654.

Free tax service

The Aiken Public Library will have free income tax preparation through Thursday, April 10, for low- and middle-income taxpayers, with special attention for those 60 and older. Taxes are prepared by volunteer counselors trained by the Internal Revenue Service.

The Nancy Carson Library will have income tax preparation and electronic filing available free from 10 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays through April 15, by appointment only. Call (803) 279-5767. Bring copies of 2006 federal and state tax returns and current year W-2s, 1099, Social Security card and picture ID.

Old memories

The 55+ Ministry of First Baptist Church of North Augusta will hold An Evening to Remember at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 18, in the fellowship hall on the West Avenue side of the church.

The cost is $5, and food and entertainment will be provided. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the church office, 625 Georgia Ave. Call (803) 279-6370.

Wildlife contest

Aiken County's 4-H program will hold a Food and Cover Establishment for Wildlife contest this summer. Anyone interested in participating should go to the Agricultural Services Center, 1555 Richland Ave. E., Aiken, between noon and 2 p.m. Friday, April 11, or call (803) 649-6297, Ext. 113.

The deadline for contestant registration is Friday, April 18, and the cost is $5 per person.

Contestants will be given seeds to plant on an eighth to a quarter-acre area and must keep notes on its development during the growing season.

Church concert

The Masterworks Chorale at the University of South Carolina will celebrate its 10th anniversary at 7:30 p.m. April 19 with a concert at St. John's Methodist Church in Aiken.

The chorale will sing Handel's Messiah. Tickets can be purchased by calling (803) 641-3305.

Go fly your kite

The Aiken Kite Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19.

The free event will be held at Perry Park, 720 Abbeville Ave. N.E. Activities will include kite-flying demonstrations, a kite-decorating contest, inflatables, food vendors and an area where children can make and fly their kites. Call (803) 642-7631.

Car show benefit

The Wish Upon a Car benefit car show will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Aiken Mall, 2441 Whiskey Road. The show will award trophies for all classes of cars. There will be door prizes and other games. Cars must be registered before the show.
