A new parking plan changes the way traffic will enter and exit during the Masters Tournament.
Stanley Drive will be the "mouth of the funnel" for motorists with the opening of a 2,500-space parking area behind Berckmans Road, Richmond County Traffic Engineer Steve Cassell said at a news conference.
Pedestrians will use Heath Drive to reach gate 6A on Berckmans Road, which will act as one of the main entrances to the course.
"That is what we anticipate to be the primary pedestrian crossing," Mr. Cassell said.
Although Berckmans Road will remain open to vehicle traffic, Mr. Cassell said they want to discourage drivers from using the road. The original parking area will still be in use, but will be accessible only for those drivers coming from the direction of John C. Calhoun Expressway.
The Washington Road on-ramp to Interstate 20, which has been closed for several months because of construction, will be reopened from 2 to 9 p.m. that week only.
This year's tournament will be April 10-13.

the secret is - avoid from morning commute to around 10am - then all is clear until around 2pm. I love to eat in the restaurants in the area Masters week at lunch - it is not crowded at all because everyone is avoiding the area.
Does it really has it right, 10AM to 2PM the streets are pretty much empty, and the local merchants are taking a hit.
Why are Augustans getting a map? I don't know many locals who have access to tickets, and those I do know, have inside the ANGC parking passes.
Stanley, that's the point of the map - most of the inside parking will not be available. AN is constructing a new driving range and practice area where parking used to be. The best parking is still private lots down Azalea Dr.
This might just work...leaving it up to the Augusta National to finally figure out the traffic mess the tournament causes. The National sure knows how to run a golf tournament, maybe they can solve this mess. The Richmond County Sheriff's Dept. and the City Traffic Department sure have failed at it over the years. Monday to Wednesday the traffic is bad all the time with everyone coming and going and just wandering around, but during the tournament itself it's no problem...those with tickets are inside the gates, not on the roads!
