'Revolutionary' column was outrageous

  • Follow Letters

Joaquin Godoy's recent opinion piece in The Augusta Chronicle ("Obama movement could propel our nation into revolutionary awakening," March 4) predictably demonstrated his vitriolic hatred and lack of understanding of this country.

He makes statement after statement without factual basis. He cites 35 million living below the poverty line, but fails to identify what that line is, and how it compares to countries like his native Cuba. Perhaps he should return to his homeland to build rickety rafts for those risking their lives to escape the "workers paradise." They would be delighted to live under a poverty line that affords a lifestyle many times higher than their own. Godoy favors abusive and repressive regimes that invariably build barriers to keep those seeking freedom from migrating to a nation that has to build a fence to keep people out!

His utopian vision of a future administration based on hope is pathetic. No amount of hope can dissuade pathological killers from murdering citizens. We had an administration based on hope when Hitler decided to conquer the world. It soon became apparent that "hope" would not get the job done. That is when resolve and a strong military ensured that guilt-ridden America-haters like Godoy would someday have the freedom to write lies and distortions in a free press!

Godoy asserts that "this young generation is the future" -- deep! Can anyone cite a young generation that was not the future? Regardless, that future is in jeopardy if all the leadership can offer is "hope." Offering to talk peace with terrorists is nothing but a cheap platitude for those who are destined to end up without peace or freedom.

I find it interesting that he has toned down his hateful rhetoric since he has taken on the pseudo-title of "guest columnist." What publication claims him as a columnist -- Pravda or The Daily Worker? His opinions are apropos for Rants & Raves, where anonymity will protect him from rational scrutiny!

Paul Hopkins, Aiken, S.C.

This writer is a complete
Unpublished

This writer is a complete idiot and provides a poor argument about facts. Most White southerners have a history of "missing the boat" when comes to Civil Rights, minority issues, and equal application of laws. This guy is a loser with a small mind, ignorant of historical facts & blindly racist. He refers to "freedom." For whom? "Oppressive regimes?" What kinda government do U think blacks endured for over two hundred yrs? Have U forgot? The first line of the article is asinine regarding hatred of country. FOOL! A true patriot is one who challegences one's country's policy when it's unpopular to do so, risking life and limb. It's very easy to follow the croud. Try standing alone with the heat rounds coming in...thats what make the country great. To have such courageous individuals to speak true to power, is completely AMERICAN. This article is just a collections of quotes from white talking heads on TV & radio. No glimps of high intellegence here. In fact, this is a typical attempt, by a typical newspaper staff, in a typical southern town, during a NON-typical election year, to influence the support of Obama. This guy, like the south, will prove to be on the wrong side of history...

I think justus4 should leave the backward south and move to an area that would agree with his liberal views. He will never be happy here, so why stay?

Justus, I am white and don't have a history of "missing the boat" but I sure wish you would turn off your hate towards people due to color. I am so sorry that you can't let go of the past long enough to build a future.

Anyhow, back to the LTE. The writer was right on about Cuba building barriers to keep people in from escaping to a country that needs to build a wall to keep people out. Also on the poverty issue. If US poverty includes computers, big screens and 24 inchers, it's gotta be good.

Yes, let's quit having Obama

Yes, let's quit having Obama offering hope, and stick with the Republicans who offer despair, war, economic disaster and 100 years of Iraqi occupation. Yes, all that makes sense for the voters.

Godoy's comments are typical

Godoy's comments are typical of someone who comes to this country for all of it's benefits, then wants to complain everything "they" think is wrong with it. He should be living in the north, with the rest of the "pinheads" who believe his bull. Obama would bring change to this country all right ... but NOT what this writer infers. He is weak on forgein affairs, or any other for that matter. If he is elected, race relations will be set back 50 years ... 250 years might be better, before we brought anyone to this country, who would later cause the rise of crime, entitlements, welfare, etc. Our nation will be hit again by terrorists, and like with Clinton, nothing will be done about it. Not to mention his great "spiritual" advisor, who will be spewing his hate from the White House, since he is just the old uncle, that you "sometimes" disagree with. By the way ... my last name is Irish ... but my ancestors are mostly Creek and Cherokee Indains ... yes, the American kind ... but I am an AMERICAN first!

Noooo....... maybe a little

Noooo....... maybe a little strong...okay I just can't seem to get past this man and his politics and furthermore, my opinion :-) mind you, I do believe he has fond memories of muslim influence in his life. Obama is just not trustworthy or enough experience and probably would look the other way if this country were to allow the muslims of a not so nice nature venture into this country thru the backdoor so to speak. There does that sound better......

Who would print such a

Who would print such a mindless LTE? This letter did nothing, but attack the writer without providing any facts. Instead commenting on the issue of poverty in this country, he diverted to poverty in Cuba. He didn't convince me of nothing but his disdain for Mr. Godoy's opinion and his dislike for Obama. If you are going to refute a LTE, refute it with facts, not bitterness and narrowminded attacks on ones nationality.

not much better, but a

not much better, but a little. I would like to think that if he were to become president, he would not look the other way against the "not so nice" muslims or other "not so nice" people. Just because he is an American presidential candidate, he should not have to re-nounce his religous beliefs, and no candidate should have their religous beliefs judged for an election. It can be a factor, but if he turns out the to be the best candidate for the job, then his religous beliefs should not be an issue. Now all that being said, if he was elected and he did look the other way against a "not so nice" muslim, i would hope that everyone would call that into question and the citizens of this country would call for the right action taken against him. It is very hard to judge how a person "might" act or how we "think" a person might act. You never know, he might be the meanest SOB on the planet when it comes to things of that nature. To put it into perspective, the country "elected" Bush, and look where we are now. Most thought he was an alright kinda guy.....now we know he is a moron

Of course justus4 is going to

Of course justus4 is going to be out of the gates with his overly exagerated twisted views on things, he likes to get a reaction out of everyone. I don't think since living here that I have came in contact with anyone as racist as him be it black or white. I certainly haven't held any black person back and I am not about to feel guilty about anything. I work hard everyday to provide for my family and if eveyone one else did the same and pulled their own weight in this world we would all be better off.

Justus4, your usual racist

Justus4, your usual racist drivel I see. Slavery ended over a hundred years ago, blacks and other minorities have been given special dispensation since the 1969 Civil Rights act was signed into law. If you haven't made it by now, you have no one to blame but yourself as the opportunities have been offered on a silver platter. I have wondered if either Obamas met the same requirments to enter the Ivy Lleague schools he graduated from or was it Affirmative Action? Same for Michelle Obama's entrance to Princeton. If Gody believes America is so bad, let him go back to Cuba where he must think it is so great. Sad how so many Cubans have dies trying to escape Castro and his regime. If things here are so bad, why did he come here in the first place?
