Whites ticketed twice as often as blacks are
CHARLESTON, S.C. --- A Charleston newspaper says a review of tickets written by state troopers in the past five years shows white people were cited twice as often as blacks, reflecting the state's population.
The review by The Post and Courier comes after several recent videos showed black motorists being treated badly by troopers.
The U.S. Justice Department is reviewing the incidents. The videos led to the removal of the head of the Highway Patrol and the Department of Public Safety.
The newspaper obtained 2.2 million tickets issued by troopers from 2003 to 2007 through the Freedom of Information Act. Sixty-two percent of tickets were written to white motorists, 31 percent to blacks.
Blacks were twice as likely as whites to be arrested for not stopping for an officer.

Maaaaan, we are so gonna have a field day with this one...uh huh, uh huh.
This is too easy..... I am just gonna sit back and watch the fur fly. I call shot gun!!!!
lol..............
uhummm....not saying one word :-)
But, but, but...we're all waiting for ya to...beer & boiled p-nuts anyone, while I'm up? lol Actually, I haven't even been to bed yet...and got a grandSons baseball game @ 2pm too. Gonna be a long one today...
It is racism! The police are profiling white motorists! I don't think its fair and I am not going to stand for it! Who is up for a protest?
Just HOW do they know that blacks are TWICE as likely to be arrested for not stopping? They are looking at the tickets which
they say reflect the states population. Besides, I guess if that is
true maybe more white guys have the sense to stop instead of trying to run! La..la..la..la
I take statistics w/ a grain of salt, regardless. The records clerk tried to stop me from picking up my brother's accident report after I handed them his note with the case #, description of the incident, officers #. I asked why. She said, "You said this is your brother." I said, "Yes?" She said, "Then, I can't give you this because, this can't be your brother, it says here he's black." I thought, "Here we go again." He is NOT black, they made an error, AGAIN. I laughed and jokingly said something like, "I'm surprised he admitted that, most people don't think he's black when they look at him, he has brown and grey hair, hazel eyes, fair-skin and freckles." "I don't look black either, do I?" (Because I'm not) She mumbled "no". I said, "Well an officer put me down as black and 26 years old, the same as the perp, on one report, don't worry dear, I know mistakes happen." Her eyes glazed over, her jaw dropped, and she gave me the report & I was then able to bring the report to my bruised & battered brother who didn't have a car to get down there even if he felt up to it. That is why I take statistics with a grain of salt.
Something to ponder justus I Viewed a disturbing movie last night by the title of Tears of the Sun....So much has been mouthed by many blacks and some whites about racial slurs and injustices when it comes to the African-Americans in this country nowadays most of which is untrue but has been kept alive and perpetuated by those who seek to receive more and more from our government while doing less and accusing more. I would like to point out the fact that living in this country has afforded all of us the rights and liberties we now enjoy. If any want to "fight the good fight" try fighting for something that matters like the freeing of whole groups of people who are tortured and killed on a daily basis just because they live. I have been called racist on these boards simply because I believe the past needs to stay in the past and people need to live together as Americans, working together to stop the ever increasing unrest of one group over another. I do not see color when I see the people of Africa and other countries slaughtered without mercy in fact that is one fight I would gladly fight and die for along with fighting the good fight of spreading the Good News of salvation given to us through God and Jesus Christ..Happy Easter
justus4, I hope for the sake of your progeny, that your last statement isn't true.
