AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Friday, March 14, 2008. Mrs. Harrye Hughes Davis wife for 65 years to the late A. Woodrow Davis. Mrs. Davis, a native of Aiken County, South Carolina, is the daughter of the late Henry Julius and Hattie Koon Hughes, She has resided in Augusta, Georgia for the past 68 years. Mrs. Davis was a dedicated volunteer in the Augusta community for over 60 years. An avid gardener she was active in gardening circles having served as chairman of the Augusta Rose Show, a member of the Countryside Garden Club and a founding member and President of the Oriental Garden Club. Mrs. Davis was a member of The Augusta Women's Club for 60 years. In 2007 she received the Club award for being the oldest and longest serving member of the organization. She also served as president of the Berckman Hills Association and was a member of the United Transportation Auxiliary. She was a former member of the Pinnacle Club. Mrs. Davis was a member of the Augusta Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Reverend Pierre Robert Chapter of the National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century. She loved to knit, bake, talk about her family and most importantly share her faith in God. Harrye was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Augusta and attended the Golden Circle Sunday School Class. When Mrs. Davis was not busy in the community she could be found at the ball park watching her late husband Woody play and then coach minor-league pro baseball and later American Legion baseball. Family members include her daughter Mary Friar-Davis Ingham and son in law Rodney Royer Ingham of Wilmington, Delaware. Three granddaughters and son-in-laws: Sharon and Joel Brown of Tampa, Florida; Lisa and Wes. Nalley of Greenville, SC; Kathryn and Bart Reese of Wilmington, Delaware and seven great grandchildren: Mary Ashton Nalley, Bennett Nalley, Weston Nalley, Davis Brown, Caroline Brown, Landon Reese and Elliot Reese. Mrs. Davis was also pre-deceased by her first husband Mack Henry Friar as well as her 2 year old daughter Barbara Jean Friar both of Aiken, SC. The family of Harrye Davis extends heartfelt thanks to all the employees at Brandon Wilde for their tender loving care. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, March 29th at ll:00 AM in the Georgia Room at Brandon Wilde Life Care Community, 4275 Owens Road in Evans, Georgia with First Baptist Pastor Roger Murchinson officiating. Private entombment will be held prior to the service. The family will receive guests at a reception following the service.
