AUGUSTA, Ga. - George Ralph Pena, born on May 14, 1944, died at Trinity Hospital in Augusta, Georgia Friday, March 14, 2008. Mr. Pena was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, and attended school at San Francisco de la Espada Mission, LaSalle Catholic High School and graduated from Southside High School in 1963. He was then drafted into the Army and served his country in Viet Nam. He was later selected as one of 40 advisors sent to the American Embassy in El Salvador. He retired in Georgia as a highly decorated Army Staff Sergeant upon completing his 20 years of service. After retirement, he remained active with his favorite pastime of raising chickens and roosters and trying his luck with lottery tickets. He helped friends with their respective businesses and always stayed in touch with his family and friends in San Antonio. George is best remembered as a great man who loved his family, friends and country. He is preceded in death by his father, Pantaleon Pena, Jr., and is survived by his wife, Nancy Ann, his mother, Elena DeWitt Pena, his sister, Yolanda Pena Inglis and her husband, Robert; his brother, Gerard M. Pena and wife, Sandra; his children, George R. Pena, Jr. and Gerry R. Pena, five grandchildren: Brandee, Dominique, George Anthony, Xavier and Auliana; nephews: Arthur G. Delgado and Robert M. Inglis, Jr; and nieces: LeAnna and Laura Pena. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South, 1700 SE Military Drive, San Antonio, Texas 78214 (210) 924-4242.
