They had no idea it also would get them kicked out of their practice facility.
Coach Billy Donovan , believing his players had settled into a state of complacency and entitlement, banned them from Florida's $12 million facility. He also told them they couldn't wear Florida attire.
"When you have great success like we've had, I think it's very, very easy to become complacent," Donovan said Monday.
The two-time reigning national champion Gators (21-11) lost eight of their final 11 games and missed out on the NCAAs for the first time since 1998. They became the first defending champion to miss the tournament since probation-stricken Kansas in 1989.
Players spent the past four days shuffling between the O'Connell Center practice floor and the antiquated Florida Gym.
INDIANA: While the Hoosiers prepare for the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the school said Monday that a former trustee will lead a 10-member committee to search for a replacement for disgraced coach Kelvin Sampson .
The job became vacant in February when Sampson resigned amid allegations of NCAA violations. Dan Dakich , an assistant coach and a former Indiana player, took over as interim coach for the rest of the season.
Harry Gonso , a former Indiana quarterback, will lead the search committee, which includes athletic director Rick Greenspan .
TOLEDO: Stan Joplin was fired as University of Toledo men's basketball coach after 12 years.
Athletic director Mike O'Brien said the program needs new direction and energy after an 11-19 finish and a disappointing recruiting class.
Joplin, who was 203-155 at Toledo, was MAC Coach of the Year last season.
SEC REFUND POLICY
ATLANTA --- The Southeastern Conference still is sorting out a refund policy for fans who couldn't attend the men's tournament after a tornado struck the Georgia Dome.
The conference released a statement saying fans would be informed through its Web site, www.secsports.com, as well as the official sites of the 12 member schools when the plan is finalized.
The storm Friday night forced the SEC to move the final two days of the tournament to Georgia Tech's Alexander Memorial Coliseum.
With the smaller capacity of the coliseum, compared to the dome, only working officials, bands, cheerleaders, and friends and family of the players could attend games.
