STATESBORO, Ga. - Mr. Benjamin E. 'Bodie' Sanders, age 50, died Sunday morning at his residence. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County owned and operated Dixieland Materials since 1986 and Sanders Trucking Company since 1978. He was a 1975 graduate of Southeast Bulloch High School. Mr. Sanders was a member of Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church and served as a lay speaker in the Primitive Baptist Church's in Bulloch County. He was preceded in death by his father Benny Thomas Sanders. Surviving is his wife of 25 years, Lorna Tankersley Sanders of Statesboro; three sons Joel Bodie Sanders of Tempe, AZ, Benji Albert Sanders and Toby Logan Sanders, both of Statesboro; a daughter Shelby Dolores Sanders of Statesboro; his mother and step father Carolyn Sanders Cannon and Arnold Cannon of Statesboro; three sisters and brothers-in-law Debbie and Wade McElveen of Stilson, Donna and Lane Middleton of Statesboro, and Lisa and Kenny Waters of Arcola; two brothers and a sister in law, Michael Sanders of Statesboro, and Al and Kathy Sanders of Hope Mills, NC; his mother-in-law and father-in-law Dolores and Albert Tankersley of Martinez, GA; his grandmother Mary Vanbrackle of Statesboro; several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. The visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Lanes Primitive Baptist Church with Elder W.H. Durrence officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Lanes Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the church or charity of donor's choice.
