SARDIS, Ga. - Lee Owens, 82, entered into rest Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Burke Medical Center. A native of Dunbarton, S C, he was born March 5, 1926. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served during World War II. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #385, Sardis, GA, and the Order of Eastern Star, Lodge #382, Sardis, GA. Mr. Owens was the owner/operator of Lee's Bar-B-Que in Hiltonia for many years. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois Owens. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Essie Nevils Owens; two daughters, Carolyn Owens of Gracewood, and Johnnie Griffin of Sardis; one grandson, Christopher Griffin (Holly); and three great-grandsons, Dylan, Dalton, and Dawson, all of Bloomingdale, GA. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2008, at DeLoach Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Waynesboro. Friends may call at the residence (1313 Ellison Bridge Road, Sardis, GA). Funeral services will be held Monday, March 17, 2008, at 4:00 p.m. at East Burke Baptist Church, with Rev. Yonce Lively and Rev. Ernest Proctor officiating. Interment will follow at Corinth Christian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Christopher Griffin, Stephen Schuman, Walter and Franklin Proctor, Henry Glisson, Phillip Windham, and Talmadge Brown. Flowers are being accepted; however, memorials may be made to East Burke Baptist Church Building Fund.
