A rant against the North Augusta post office. What kind of post office has only two people working at any given time of the day, has no stamp machine in the lobby and closes at lunchtime on Wednesday? Is this 1960? I have lived in North Augusta for 30 years. While the city has grown tremendously, the post office has gotten smaller. They removed the stamp machine about a year ago, so now you have to wait in line for 20 minutes just to buy a book of stamps. God forbid someone is getting a passport. That just slows the line even more. I can't remember a time when the line wasn't out the door. I dread the times when I have to go to the post office. Please fix this problem, North Augusta!
RAVE FOR JAMES Herrin at Aiken High School. He always goes the extra mile.
TESTING LIMITS? I'd like to find out where The Chronicle thinks there is a 65 mph speed limit on the Aiken-Augusta Highway. Second, the two Burnettown deaths on that road in 2007 were at the Clearwater intersection, where the speed limit was already reduced. The victims, by the way, were not wearing seat belts, so almost any speed could have been fatal.
WHEN WILL THE Ascauga Lake/Canal Street railroad repairs be complete? The state said it would take a month. It has already been three months and still hasn't been completed. Please get it finished -- we need it.
A RAVE TO THE North Augusta Parks and Recreation Department. With opening-day ceremonies this Saturday, the ball fields never looked better. Great job, guys!
I WISH THE North Augusta Department of Public Safety would start policing the fire zones in front of Kroger and Publix. People park and go in to shop. It is very irritating, especially when you are trying to maneuver around several cars lined up without drivers. Another pet peeve I have is drivers that can't read signs. The sign and crosswalk in front of S&S Cafeteria in North Augusta clearly states to stop and pedestrians have the right of way, but people will barrel on through.
