Aiken County sheriff's investigators and other law enforcement officials arrested 13 people and seized marijuana, cocaine, crack cocaine and guns in Beech Island on Friday evening.

Aiken County deputies had received "long-standing" complaints of drug activity at homes in the 100 block of Caprice Lane and in the 500 block of Swamp Road, sheriff's Lt. Michael Frank said.

Charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and cocaine are Patrick Stevens, 21, of Augusta; Mario Davis, 19, of Beech Island; Larry Johnson Jr., 25, of Beech Island; Quentin Cribbs, 27, of New Ellenton; Antonio Dunbar, 26, of Beech Island.

Bennie Green, 40, of Miami, was arrested on a bench warrant and faces drug charges. Christopher Drayton, 29, of Augusta, was charged with assault and battery and distributing drugs within proximity of a school. Bernard Sheppard, 24, of Beech Island, was charged with possession of marijuana -- more than first.

Stanley Smith, 49, George Watkins, 59, and James Sheppard, 23, all of Beech Island, were each charged with simple possession of marijuana.

Leroy Cannon, 45, of Beech Island, was charged with three outstanding bench warrants and Melvin Stevens Jr., 47, of Beech Island, was charged with unlawful use of a telephone.

That was a mighty big group for one fell swoop. It's like duck hunting. If you don't stir them up, they'll group up.
