NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - Mr. Robert Joseph Thiede, 73, husband of Mrs. Wilma Thiede, of Woldus Road, North Augusta, SC, entered into rest March 3, 2008 at University Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008 in the Grace United Methodist Church with Dr. James C. Adams and Rev. Terry A. Roof officiating. Interment will be in Pineview Memorial Park. Mr. Thiede was born March 25, 1934 in Terra Haute, Indiana to the late Gertrude Schahfer and Louis C. Thiede. He moved to Augusta, GA in 1950, attended Richmond Academy and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1957. He received a 2nd Lt. Commission to the United States Air Force with an Honorable Discharge as a Captain in 1967. In 1958 he married Wilma Ouzts and began his career as an insurance adjuster, retiring from his own business in 2007. He attended Grace United Methodist Church. He was a member and served as past President of the North Augusta Jaycees in 1965 during his tenure, was selected as one of the Outstanding Young Men in America in 1967, was the founder of the North Augusta Sertoma Club and was elected Charter President in 1971-1972, serving as President again in 1975- 1976. He was a past charter member of the North Augusta Country Club, past member of the Palmetto Golf Club and a member of the Beech Island Agricultural Club. Mr. Thiede was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather who was always so proud of his family and so loved his dog "Sugar" who was a constant companion. He enjoyed gardening, walking, golf, friends and family times. He found great delight in traveling to his cabin in North Carolina. Additional survivors include a son, Chris Thiede, North Augusta; a daughter, Ashlyn T. Hardy and her husband, David, North Augusta; a grandchild, Marclee Moore Hardy. Mr. Thiede was preceded in death by a son, Robert Joseph "Jay" Thiede, Jr. Active Pallbearers will be John Gibbs, Lloyd McNair, Tom Cupstid, Gerry Metts, Steve McElmurray, Ed Wilson, Ed Moody and Hugh Cook.
