AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Garney C. Browning Sr., beloved husband of Helen Spivey Browning, entered into rest Sunday March 02, 2008 at University Hospital. Mr. Browning lived in Richmond County for 54 years. He was a Union Representive 40 years with the IUE/CWA AFL-CIO. He retired Director of Organization, District 1. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, Fleming Lodge # 718, Alice Warren Chapter # 483, Master Mason, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Richmond County Sheriff's Merit Board and co-owner and operator of Browning Auto Sales. "I worked for 40 years improving the wages, hours and working conditions of working people. That was a great satisfaction to me. I have had a good life and a great loving family. I am very proud of my children and my wife is a great mother and homemaker". The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 5, 2008 prior to services from 5-7 pm, at Central Baptist Church, 3006 Richmond Hill Road, Augusta. Funeral services will follow the visitation, Central Baptist Church, 7:00 p.m. with the Reverend Jerry Wilson officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Owens, Charlie Webster, Grady Rice and Robert Buchwitz. Burial will be the following day in Dublin, GA at 1 PM at Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include his wife; daughter Doree Browning and Jennifer (Robbie) Holton; son John (Jennifer) Browning; four grandchildren, Amanda, Lauren, Brandon and Olivia and sisters Sue Wiggins and Madonna West. He is preceded in death by his son Garney C. Browning Jr.; his parents G. Cecil Browning and Essie L. Farmer Browning, brother, George L. Browning. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
