Pupils who made bomb threats are back in jail

Two of the Richmond County pupils found last month to have made bomb threats are back behind bars, according to Juvenile Court Judge Bill Sams.

Over the weekend, the youths were detained in connection with a battery, Judge Sams said.

On Monday, he held a detention hearing for the two juveniles and found enough evidence to hold them over in the Youth Detention Center until Friday.

At that time, a hearing will be held to determine if the students, ages 12 and 13, violated their probation. If they did, they could be locked up for 60 days.

The bomb threats were made against Glenn Hills Middle and Glenn Hills High schools.

The youths attended Glenn Hills Middle.

Council OKs proposal to build along river

The North Augusta City Council on Monday approved development plans for five new houses, a road and commercial space along the Savannah River.

The plans had been part of a failed bid to build a 256-unit apartment complex near the Fifth Street bridge.

The plans by River North developer Carl Sanders call for up to 45,000 square feet of commercial space.

The road, which would connect to River North Drive, is designed to provide access to the commercial area and a 30-acre parcel along the river owned by L.H. Simkins Jr.

Plans call for clocks, flagpole on building

Two 9-foot-diameter clocks and a flagpole could be added to the tower atop the new North Augusta Municipal Building, officials said Monday.

The North Augusta City Council gave the go-ahead to have an architect revise plans for the building's tower. It would include a 40-foot flagpole, a clock facing north along Georgia Avenue and another facing south along the planned Center Street thoroughfare that will connect downtown to Hammond's Ferry.

City Administrator C. Sam Bennett III said the estimated cost is $73,500.

Hospital releases 5th burn victim

A patient injured in the Imperial Sugar Co. explosion was released Monday from the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital, spokeswoman Beth Frits said in an e-mail.

Eleven patients remain at the burn center in critical condition.

The center admitted 20 patients from the accident. Five have been discharged, and four have died, Ms. Frits said.

The family requested the name not be released.

Burglars steal Tiger Woods photo

An Augusta man told police that burglars broke into his west Augusta home Saturday and stole several items, including an autographed photo of Tiger Woods he said was worth $500.

The thieves used a rock to break into a glass door in the man's Mitchell Street house between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., a Richmond County sheriff's report says.

Police use Taser on man after he flees

North Augusta Public Safety officers said they stunned a man with a Taser after he fled from them Sunday.

Robert Brent Cameron, 49, of the 1300 block of Greene Street in Augusta, was charged with first-degree burglary, resisting arrest and kidnapping, according to a public safety report.

Mr. Cameron is accused of breaking into a 79-year-old North Augusta woman's home, pushing her to the ground, then stealing her car.

The man wrecked the car off East Clifton Avenue at East Avenue, then fled on foot.

The man was shot with a Taser but managed to pull the probes from his body. Officers fired again and were able to subdue him, the report said.

the punishment should be harsh for all who break-enter others homes or the nasty little kids that continue to harm others for the pure pleasure. Put a pole in the in the middle of town or several pole. Shackle the person to that pole and leave them there for whatever time it takes to imprint upon their minds the error of their ways. To all others similiar punishment for other crimes and of course hanging for the more violent of criminals. But we have to have proof before hanging ....yep this sounds good to me. This will also save the taxpayer lots and lots of money. :)

Itll be alright

OUTLAW CAR CHASES. COPS are the ones who are SUPPOSE to be in their RIGHT mind when some one FLEES. They need to step up to the plate and make the right call not to chase. A car chase ALWAYS HAS POTENTIAL TO KILL, an INNOCENT VICTIM they KNOW this going into the chase. But it is still allowed??? This really disturbs me badly. I just can't fathom how this is acceptable, and that "authority" can get away with this. UNREAL! I hope that this family SUES, and may God be with them.

patriciathomas

angie1961, every time the police take enforcement action, there's the POTENTIAL for an innocent victim to be hurt. By your narrow reasoning, all police action should be stopped. Hint: thinking is an acceptable life tool. Try it, you'll like it.

karmakills123

Looks like the kids who made the bomb threat were not in the least worried about the consequences of their actions........put the thug wannabes in a boot camp till 18.

lifelongresidient

my question regarding the kids who made the bomb threats.......WHERE ARE THE PARENT(S)!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

pantherluvcik

The job of the police is to serve and protect, to save and preserve lives. They cannot fire a weapon into a crowd, but they can speed on a crowded street or highway. Take your hint patriciathomas nobody wants all police action to stop, they just want police to do their jobs without jeopordizing innocent lives. Sometimes being smart/ smart a@@ed only makes you look stupid.

christian134

on please panterluvcik it is very simple sitting on the sidelines when "stuff" or in this case where tragedy occurs---hindsight is a wonderful thing---- while on the other side it is another state of affairs to actually be involved. I also don't recall anyone calling anyone stupid now that is just plain not nice at all......:-)

adam

I wonder if those two little bomb-threat making "angels" will be "so sorry" again? LOL!!!

NEone

Angie: EVERY time you drive your car, there is the potential to kill. Maybe you should stay home?

adam

Dear Criminals...Do not commit crimes and do not flee from the police and place the lives of others in danger.Thank You.signed a law-abiding citizen. How's that work for all of you cop-bashers?

rufus

The parents have no control over those 2 kids. They need boot camp.

1trugent

Angie1961, I think you're on the side of criminals. Let's say, I get in a foot chase with someone who has robbed a bank, shoplifted from a store, ran from a traffic stop, whatever...and the person I'm chasing runs into traffic and either gets himself killed or worse, causes a car of four to swerve and crash and someone dies, you want me to be held accountable for that? Unbelievable! The criminal is to blame. Get it through your thick head!

Rupret in the middle east

Angie1961, because of people like you that is why criminals do a lot of the things they do and try to run away from cops. The cops are trying to protect the community and I must say they are doing a fine job.

Painter

pantherluvcik, the officer was doing his duty to serve and protect. He was pursuing a felon who by the way was the one who drove his vehicle into the victims car as a result of his crime not the fact that the officer was pursuing him. How can anyone place blame on the very one who was doing what we pay him to do. You people really do kill me!

Evans Ga.

They should have detained the two kids that made the bomb threat longer anyhow. They can't expect to slap them on the wrist, and send them down the road. They deserved harsher punishment from the get go.

sanders20

i think angie lives next to Olin

sanders20

please angie...no more water from the tap. bottled water only for you!!

Well I bet you people who think its wrong for the police to chase a fleeing criminal would feel different if the person or persons had harmed you or your family. I hate it when a person gets injured or killed and hate it also when a criminal gets away and all of you who like to bash the cops need to get a life, would you do it for the money we make, again I hate that a person got killed.Bless that family and the deputy in the chase, keep your chin up deputy and continue to do a good job.

Blondi

It's just stupid to risk lives to chase someone over a traffic violation!

pantherluvcik

First of all Painter I didn't say I blame the officer for the initial chase, just for not backing off when he said he had all the guys information. He could have issued the warrants and picked him up later. I believe sometimes chases are needed, but not for a traffic offense. If there was a kidnap victim, a murder or rape, yes chase him so he can do no further crime. But not for a traffic violation. And christian please spare me the BS, you are the most un-christian person I see on here. You're calling for torture under one article, and me saying stupid offends you. But to clarify I didn't call anyone stupid, I said comments like that make her look stupid.
