FORT MYERS, Fla. --- Josh Beckett struck out five and allowed two hits in three innings Monday in a "B" game against the Minnesota Twins.

Beckett threw 26 of 53 pitches in the first, when he plunked Jon Knott to load the bases with no outs. He recovered with a pair of strikeouts, getting Jose Morales to wave at a high fastball to get out of the jam.

BREWERS: Prince Fielder is frustrated about his contract.

The Milwaukee Brewers renewed the slugger's contract for $670,000 on Sunday after he finished third in NL MVP voting last season, when he made $415,000.

"I'm not happy about it at all," Fielder said. "The fact I've had to be renewed two years in a row, I'm not happy about it because there's a lot of guys who have the same amount of time that I do who have done a lot less and are getting paid a lot more."

"But my time is going to come. It's going to come quick, too."

ATHLETICS: Shortstop Bobby Crosby was dropped from the starting lineup for Monday's exhibition game against the Los Angeles Angels because of back spasms.

Crosby has not played a full season since being voted AL Rookie of the Year in 2004.

Yankees: Broadcaster Bobby Murcer was resting in a Houston hospital after undergoing a brain biopsy Monday.

An All-Star outfielder who played 17 seasons in the major leagues, Murcer had surgery in December 2006 after being diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor.

DIAMONDBACKS: Right-hander Micah Owings skipped a scheduled start Monday because of a sore shoulder.

PHILLIES: First base coach Davey Lopes has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

The former Brewers manager will have surgery this month and is expected to miss six weeks.
