Gladys Barefield Stone (AUGUSTA, Ga.)

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Gladys Barefield Stone, 73, entered into rest early Sunday morning, March 2, 2008, at Heartland Hospice House after an extended illness. A native of Burke County, she was born January 1, 1935 to the late Roger E. and Evelyn Lively Barefield. She retired as a Medical Secretary from Tyndall Air Force Base near Panama City, FL. For many years, she was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Augusta and a member of the choir. She loved her church, her church family, the church choir, traveling, and genealogy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Victor Stone. She is survived by three brothers, Jimmie Barefield (Sally), Al Barefield (Billie), and Johnny Barefield (Sherrie); all of Waynesboro; two sisters, Joyce B. Hayes (Durwood) and Elizabeth B. Gossett (Scott), all of Waynesboro; four stepsons, Lloyd Stone, John Stone, Clifford Stone, and Ken Stone; many loving nieces and nephews and great- nieces and great-nephews; a close friend, Don Wood; and several step-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 3, 2008, at DeLoach Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Waynesboro. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, in the Chapel of DeLoach Funeral Home & Cremation Service with Rev. Greg DeLoach officiating. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro. Pallbearers will be Woody Hayes, Randy Hayes, Mike Barefield, Mitch Barefield, Chris Barefield, and John Barefield. Honorary pallbearers will be the First Family Singers of the First Baptist Church of Augusta. Flowers are being accepted, but memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Augusta Choir Group, P. O. Box 14489, 3500 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30909 or to a medical charity of one's choice.
