AUGUSTA, Ga. - Helen Brennan Rice (Mrs. Albert Anthony Rice), a life-long Augustan, died peacefully at her residence on March 1, 2008 at the age of 94. Mrs. Rice was the wife of the late Albert Anthony Rice. The funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 P.M. today, Monday, March 3, 2008 at St. Mary on-the- Hill Catholic Church, Rev. Gerald Ragan celebrant. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park. Mrs. Rice was a member of St. Mary on-the-Hill Catholic Church and was a former member of the St. Mary's Altar Guild and the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. She was the first President of the Aquinas High School Mothers' Club, was a member of the Boys' Catholic High Mothers' Club and the Mount St. Joseph Mothers' Club. She was an active member and officer of the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary and served as a Pink Lady for many years. She was a member of the Guild of Sacred Heart. She was a founding member of the Camellia Garden Club in 1949 and remained a very active member until her death. She is survived by her son: Patrick James Rice and his wife, Susan Meyercord Rice of Augusta; four grandchildren: Tara Rice Simkins and her husband, Nathaniel Turner Simkins of Augusta, Patrick James Rice, Jr. and his wife, Virginia Parker Rice of Dunwoody, GA, Susan Rice Adamson and her husband, Robert Francis Adamson II of Atlanta, GA. Edward Albert Rice of Atlanta; eight great-grandchildren: Nathanial Turner Simkins, Jr., Patrick Brennan Simkins, Christopher Hampton Simkins of Augusta, Patrick Albert Rice and Braeden Parker Rice of Dunwoody, GA and James Woodruff Adamson, Emma Clare Adamson, Robert Pierce Adamson of Atlanta; her brother: James Joseph Brennan of Augusta; her sister: Mrs. Benjamin Brennan Stoughton of Atlanta; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend its warmest thanks and appreciation to the Golden Living Retirement Community (formerly Beverly Villa) who loved and cared for Mrs. Rice on a daily basis until her death. Mrs. Rice was preceded in death by her parents: Martha Tallulah Brennan and Thomas Joseph Brennan; her sisters: Tallulah Brennan O'Connor and Mary Agnes Brennan Wheeler; her brothers: James Patrick Brennan and Thomas Joseph Brennan, Jr. Pallbearers will be nephews: Peter Anthony Franklin, Brian Franklin, Bradford Woody Merry, Thomas Brady Stoughton, George Warren Stoughton, James Patrick Brennan, John Christopher Stinnett and Richard Alexander Stearns, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Camellia Garden Club.
