HEPHZIBAH, Ga. - Mr. Marion Carwell Smith, 85, of Hephzibah, Georgia entered into rest on Friday, February 29, 2008 at University Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Mrs. Lucille B. Parrish Smith. Funeral services will be held on Monday March 3, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Elliott Sons Funeral Home on Lumpkin Road with Dr. Ernest S. Purcell officiating. Interment will follow in West View Cemetery. A native of Augusta, Georgia, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Lucille Smith. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and participated in three invasions and eight campaigns in Europe and Africa. He was retired from Georgia Power Company after forty years of service as a cable splicer. He was a member for over sixty years of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 1579. Survivors include his daughter, Freda Smith Chalker and her husband Timothy L. Chalker of Hephzibah, Georgia. Visitation was held on Sunday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Elliott Sons Funeral Home on Lumpkin Road.
