The best of Richmond County's best students will be announced today.
The Augusta Kiwanis Club will hold its annual Student Teacher Academic Recognition luncheon, which honors the high school students with the highest SAT scores and class rank . From among them will be chosen one student to represent Richmond County.
"The future is bright when you look at these students," said John Bell, who conducts the program for the club.
The students have impressive aspirations that include professional careers, lives of service and education as prestigious as Yale, he said . To be the STAR Student at a particular high school is notable in itself.
"If you're picked as the best and the brightest that's pretty impressive," Mr. Bell said.
The STAR Students select the educators who had the greatest affect on them, honoring them as STAR Teachers.
The STAR program, sponsored statewide by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, began in the 1950s when the Soviet Union launched Sputnik .

Congratulations to all the students named as the best of Richmond Co. Funny thing is no one has commented on these children success! If this was a negative article we would have over 100 comments by now! So to the children named in this article congratulations and keep up the good work!
Congrats to the parents, too. Likely they were involved in their children's education for them to earn these high marks, so a star to them as well. For any that may have earned this rank with little family involvement, extra stars for you!
Congratulations to these high-achieving students from public and private schools in Richmond County as well as to their parents! Each student deserves a story in the AC. Each CC student gets one in the CCN-T. Maybe, if we pay more attention to STAR students, we Georgians'll get higher SAT scores and, more importantly, better Reading, Math and Writing skills among our high school grads.
