A program at the Columbia County Library in Evans brought the culture of ancient Egypt back to life Saturday.
The event, called Egypt's Day, featured a wide variety of activities that visitors viewed and participated in, including stations where Egyptian souvenirs were sold and henna tattoos were offered.
The day's crowd also learned about ancient Egyptian medical remedies.
Children made crafts inspired by the culture and listened to Egyptian stories.
Traditional Egyptian dishes, such as falafel and kofta, were on hand.
The exhibit was organized by a local group of Egyptian descent.
"The main purpose behind it is to increase awareness about the Egyptian culture, religions, civilization and those kinds of things," said Mohamed Abo-Elhamd, who entertained visitors by writing in Arabic calligraphy.
Vicki Gallahue, of Evans, heard about the exhibit at River Ridge Elementary School, where her daughter attends. She visited the exhibit with her son, Cameron, and daughter, Morgan. They also were planning to watch an Egyptian documentary at the "Pyramid Theatre" in the Jabez Sanford Hardin Performing Arts Center.
"This is just wonderful," Ms. Gallahue said. "It makes me want to go there."
