Who says the Augusta-Richmond County Coliseum Authority can't make a decision?

When deciding whether to keep or replace General Manager Robert "Flash" Gordon this past week, the Coliseum Authority decided "yes!"

They're both keeping him on, and hiring someone else to actually run the place.

Wow.

"Mr. Gordon will remain in charge," the news story said, "but his main job will be to market the James Brown Arena and Bell Auditorium. New facility manager Julie Huggins will manage those venues and oversee financial operations."

This is blockheaded. Board member Richard Isdell is right: If the general manager is getting the job done, no one else is necessary; if he's not, why's he there?

We love Flash. You won't find a nicer person in town. But no matter what the flow chart says, we've now hired two people to run the facility. And that's just ludicrous.

Lawmakers are looking at revamping the Coliseum Authority. Let's hope they have more sense than the Authority does, and don't just bring in a new one and keep the old one too!
