Who says the Augusta-Richmond County Coliseum Authority can't make a decision?

When deciding whether to keep or replace General Manager Robert "Flash" Gordon this past week, the Coliseum Authority decided "yes!"

They're both keeping him on, and hiring someone else to actually run the place.

Wow.

"Mr. Gordon will remain in charge," the news story said, "but his main job will be to market the James Brown Arena and Bell Auditorium. New facility manager Julie Huggins will manage those venues and oversee financial operations."

This is blockheaded. Board member Richard Isdell is right: If the general manager is getting the job done, no one else is necessary; if he's not, why's he there?

We love Flash. You won't find a nicer person in town. But no matter what the flow chart says, we've now hired two people to run the facility. And that's just ludicrous.

Lawmakers are looking at revamping the Coliseum Authority. Let's hope they have more sense than the Authority does, and don't just bring in a new one and keep the old one too!

Since the coliseum was opened, the general manager hasn't been able to promote it and run the every day duties to see it operates smoothly. Maybe this authority has finally hit on the obvious. Two people to run two jobs. What a creative concept. I wonder if it will work. Most government agencies have 6 or 7 people to run one job. Maybe this 2 people for 2 jobs concept will work. We'll just have to wait and see.

I think we should have duplicates of every job in ARC. One Ebony and one ivory.

We have a mayor and a city administrator. The mayor has an assisstant and Fred has his computer.

The authority never has been able to run this ill-conceived facility. The only capable one who ever worked at the coliseum was Wendy Oglesby. And, like most very capable people in Richmond County, she was run out of town. I've said it before, I'll say it again. If you have a position of responsibility at the Augusta Richmond County Coliseum, rent don't buy.
