College classes

Limestone College is taking registrations for classes at the Aiken/North Augusta Classroom Center, 2444 Jefferson Davis Highway, Aiken. Courses being offered are Social Work Intervention Large Groups and Microeconomics, starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Child-care meeting

The Aiken County First Steps Childcare Committee will meet at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Aiken County First Steps, 208D The Alley, Aiken. Call (803) 643-3845.

Disabilities board

The Aiken County Board of Disabilities will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Child Development Center of Aiken Inc., 1016 Vaucluse Road, Aiken. Call (803) 642-8800.

History on display

The Langley-Bath-Clearwater Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Lions Club Building, 6 Lions Trail, Bath. Gary Herde will have Civil War relics and Indian pottery, spears and arrowheads on display. The event is free and open to the public. Call (803) 593-3034.

Free tax assistance

The Aiken Public Library will have free income tax preparation through April 10 for low- and middle-income taxpayers, with special attention for those 60 and older. Taxes are prepared by volunteer counselors trained by the Internal Revenue Service.

The Nancy Carson Library will have income tax preparation and electronic filing available for free from 10 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays through April 15, by appointment only. Call (803) 279-5767.

Bring copies of 2006 federal and state tax returns and current year W-2s, 1099, Social Security card and picture ID.

Racing on the pond

The Aiken County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department will hold the UGA Southern Regional Collegiate Sprints Regatta and the Augusta Invitation Spring Regatta on Saturday and March 15 at Langley Pond.

The department is seeking volunteers to assist during the event. To volunteer, call Andrew Parker (803) 594-0040.

Fun on the farm

The Aiken Farm Fest will begin at 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday, March 28 and 29, at 207 Chime Bell Church Road, Aiken.

There will be an antique tractor and engine show, tractor and truck pulls, kids' pedal pull, sawmill, veneer mill and other demonstrations and exhibits.

The cost is $5, and ages 12 and younger get in free. For more information visit www.aikenfarmfest.com.

Painting classes

One-stroke painting classes will be offered from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays through March 26 at Gregg Park Civic Center, 119 Trolley Line Road, Graniteville.

The cost is $35 per class, with a $5 discount if multiple classes are paid for in advance. Supplies are included. Class size is limited to 10 people. Call (803) 663-7552.

Walking for MS

The Aiken Multiple Sclerosis Walk will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at the Aiken County Library. Participants are urged to raise money before the walk. For information, contact Matt Honeycutt, matt.honeycutt@nmss.org or (704) 525-5906.
