Art museum auction has gone online

The 15th annual Morris Museum of Art Gala has expanded its silent auction to a Web site.

"In the past, we have had an auction that has been conducted as part of the party itself. This year, because we have been able to take the auction online, it's possible for anyone who has access to a computer to take part in the party through the auction," said museum Director Kevin Grogan.

Those bidding online do not have to attend the gala to win.

The silent auction, which began online Feb. 18, will continue at the event.

Items and packages up for bid include a European vacation, a party for 50 at the Boardman Pavilion, Paul Pearman original belt buckles and an evening with Mr. Pearman, and a framed giclee of Angelo's by John Baeder, the event's featured artist.

The black-tie event will also feature cocktails, heavy hors d'oeuvres, and Pleasant Journeys and Good Eats Along the Way: A Retrospective Exhibition of Paintings by John Baeder.

Mr. Baeder and Tom Nakashima, the William S. Morris Eminent Scholar in Art and the gala's guest of honor, are among the artists expected to attend.

Mr. Grogan said that he has received many inquiries about the event and that shows how anticipated it has become.

"There's a sort of buzz about this kind of activity. The museum has received the support of a lot of people, and through them and their financial support, we have been able to significantly build the museum's endowment," he said. "It's great to ensure the museum's long-term future through the continued growth of the services the museum provides to the CSRA."

Proceeds from the event will go to the Morris Museum of Art Endowment Fund, which funds the museum's programs and educational services.
