E-mail mistake benefits ASU production

An inadvertent key stroke proved to be serendipitous for organizers of a Broadway revue at Augusta State University.

Someone in the public relations office was supposed to send out information about auditions for the show before Christmas.

"She took it on herself to e-mail all music students, and she accidentally sent it to all e-mails on campus," said Patti Myers, the director of An Evening on Broadway, which will be staged in ASU's Grover C. Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

More than 40 students turned out for the audition, only about half of them music majors. About 30 students are in the show. They will perform tunes from musicals such as Kiss Me Kate, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Sweeney Todd, Wicked and The Phantom of the Opera.

Rehearsals began at the start of the new semester in January, and the students have worked hard, Ms. Myers said.

"They are singing their hearts out," she said.

Also participating in the show are some faculty members, including Drs. Michele Champion and Wayne Lord.

Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens, $5 for non-ASU students and free for ASU students, faculty and staff.
