With no issues, Dems revert to tripe

  • Follow Letters

Several months ago, I stated in this paper that the leftist Democrats' worst nightmare was for our heroic troops to succeed in Iraq.

Now it's obvious to all that we have done so, and of course the leftists never admit they might be wrong. The party that never has anything good to say about this country has a real problem: Its presidential front-runners, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, have no credible issues. So what do they do? For lack of anything new, they now are selling the same hogwash that all leftists have used since the Russian Revolution:

- "Change." Just elect me. This new government will see to it that your every wish will come true. Free health care, higher wages, no more poverty, more jobs (all high-tech) and all people will be given a free college education (we promise we can get you admittance to Yale or Harvard through affirmative action).

- By raising taxes on the rich and the evil corporations, there is no limit to the new governmental programs for educating the poor children of this country. Look what we did with No Child Left Behind.

- We will cut all military spending. Iran, Russia, China and North Korea are our friends; we are to blame that they hate us. Remember Bill Clinton after 9-11? He implied that Islamic radicals were the result of slavery and the way we treated the American Indians, according to The Washington Times .

- We must eliminate free will. It serves no purpose; the government knows best. We know the needs of the people, and we are smarter than most people. We are Ivy League. Trust us.

And there's supposed to be hope for this country?

Mr Beckum, this LTE epitomizes the reason for change that's offered by the left. When they take over, you'll no longer be allowed to post (until you learn your place).

The_Last_Word

Beckum, good stuff! Great summation of the promises of the left.

christian134

I feel you summed up the potential and lethal effects of the democratic party if they slime their way into power. Good analysis.

Bizarro

He has been talking to Cain hasn't he.

Dark_Knight

I do not think it will be as bad as everyone is making it out to be, but the journey to the seat will be most interesting. If Barack Obama does win, it will be a challenge to say the least.

Great stuff, the American people surely can't be duped by these Democrats who think the war on terror is being lost because we left where the enemy really was in Afghanistan, and go fight in Iraq, and actually allow the enemy to COME to Iraq. Actually make the enemy stronger in places such as Pakistan and Turkey. Lose 4000 men while making the enemy stronger. Take 4 years to actually realize how we need to fight the war we should have never entered. Above this, the Democrats think healthcare is in issue for Americans and insuring children have healthcare. They think the economy is an issue as the gap between the upper and lower classes continues to get wider, while energy prices skyrocket. Finding ways for our children to afford a college education without saddling them for debt for most of their adult life. Finding a way to solve the immigration issue where families are not torn apart by forced deportations. Yes, Mr. Beckum, these Democrats are in a world of trouble with no issues whatsoever to talk about in this upcoming election. Most Americans feel just fine and comfortable with staying this present course and see no need for change.

Da Voice Inside Your Head

In History class they talked about someone in the 1930's. who promised, "A chicken in every pot and a Volkswagen in every garage". I don't think that came out too well. It ended a bomb in every pot and Russians in half the country.Good thing they don't teach Real History anymore. Just that politically correct tripe. They say if you don't learn from History, it will repeat itself. But the perfect answer is 'IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT PROBALLY IS!" If we made Politicians tell the truth and make promises that could realistically be kept, there would be no Politicians. The wisest thing I ever hears said about Politicians of any party was "How can you tell if a Politician is Lying? His or her lips are moving!"

Da Voice Inside Your Head

Liberal Faith, are you Cain in disguise? How many terrorist attacks in the US since 9/11? I'd rather fight them anywhere than on US soil. Yeah giving people everything they want without working for it is going on in Europe. Most of these countries economies are in the toilet. Why bust your hump to get ahead when the governmnt gives the slackers and Non hackers the same thing. Sorry but your idea is not new. Somone named Marx had the same idea. I think it was called Communism. Bad Economy? Stock market close to 10,000, Umemployment at less than 5%. I remember back when I took Economics back in the 80's 5% unemployment was considered FUll ENPLOYMENT! Do things need to be improved? Yes. Is healthcare a problem? Yeah, I think for a country as rich as the US EVERYONE should have Healthcare. Do I want the Government in charge of it? Hell NO! High energy prices? Yep. Need for NEW sources for Oil & Gas production? Yes some are needed but more use of the dreded Nuclear Power and Drilling everywhere the oil is YEP! Clinton Oboma? HE$LL NO!

patriciathomas

Way to go liberal faith. Don't let reality get in the way of a good political spin. Vote Democrat.

christian134

well said DaVoice....

badmoon

Liberal Faith, you telling me there are no troops in Afghanistan. I thought we were fighting a war there too. I like your idea about us needing to invade Pakistan and Turkey too. You think Barrak Hussien will go for it???

dani

The promise by Obama to make college more affordable for our young sounds good. However, the young people who can afford college, including those who work their way through, are having a difficult time getting admitted to a good school. The openings for new students are limited. Many more schools would need to be built, more professors found and would take take years. Promises of that sort is why Hillary speaks of words but no action.

cloyd1961

When will people on the left realize there ARE evil people in this world. If you believe there are good people then you must believe there are evil people. In the current war, we are fighting evil people, whether they think they are evil or not. Wanting to kill people who do not agree with your backward thinking is EVIL! I want medical insurance to be affordable (through less regulation and more competition) and for the economy to improve (through less taxes and less government spending) BUT the country's safety is paramount. The Democratic candidates think that if we stop fighting in Iraq that everybody will love us and leave us alone. 911 proved they will come here to kill us. Is it or is it not better to fight the enemy on foreign soil than here? Obama said yesterday that Al Qaeda was not in Iraq before we "invaded", what does that mean? By going to Iraq we may have attracted more Al Qaeda (some were there before the invasion) which is better than fighting them here. The enemy has said that Iraq is the center of their war, isn't that a good thing? Or is it better to have the center of the war on US soil. The Democrats act like fighting the enemy is a bad thing.

dani

I like the way Obama uses his opponents own words against them and never answers a question. Like the Iraq withdrawal. After saying he would pull out but go back if the Taliban (Tolebahn) settles in Iraq he slams McCain about saying they are now there. If OBAMA knew that already, then why did he not say so when originally asked. The guy is playing with words, and saying "sweet nothings". In that, Hillary Clinton is right. Obama is getting a free ride, it might be cute right now, but in real life, it just won't cut it.

Da Voice, most European countries' economies are in the toilet? What parallel universe are you living in? In 2002, when the Euro became the currency for the EC, it was worth 86 cents. Today it is trading at :

Thursday, February 28, 2008:

1 Euro = 1.50376 US Dollar

1 US Dollar (USD) = 0.66500 Euro (EUR)

The US economy is tanking, foreclosures are at the highest they have been in decades, oil is near $100 a barrel, and the Fed is contemplating yet another cut to the federal funds rate. Check out CNN Business today to read about Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke's 2 days of testimony. Please get the facts before making broad statements.

oh man

The war will end with Osama; Osama will let them all have free access to the grand ol USA. Remember a Vote for Osama Bin Barrack is a vote for Osama Bin Lauden.

The Ac has sunk to a new low; this LTE should have never been published. Mr. Beckum sholud be ashamed to have his name attached to this piece of sheer garbage. My spouse and I are both liberals and have close to 50 years of military service to this nation. Both of us served in the 1st Middle East War. To think that this person thinks that fellow Americans with their sons and daugthers in harms way wants us to lose a war is absurd! We have a total of 7 nieces and nephews serving in the Middle East. I don't wear my American spirit on the back of my car.

cloyd1961

Reddog-In no way am I criticizing your patriotism, I applaud you and your wife for your service to our country. I must ask, do you feel the current circumstances in Iraq are much different and safer than they were 12 months ago? Do you feel that even if it was a bad idea to invade Iraq in 2002, now that we are there should we complete the mission by fighting the enemies of our country there or do you feel we should leave like the current Democratic candidates propose? Granted, the war there has taken its toll in lives and resources, but since the surge is apparently working isn't it better to complete the job rather than allow it to become catastrophic to the region by leaving? I am asking you these things because you state that people are accusing the Democrats of wanting us to lose the war. How else can we interpret their statements? Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi have both stated we have lost this war, Obama and Clinton have both said this has been a failure. Is retreat not a loss? Is leaving Iraq to allow the enemy to take over not a loss? Since no Democrat will state publicly that we are now winning the war, I have no other option but to think they want us to lose. Please explain

The Knave

For you war-lovers out there in cyber space, the mess known as the Iraq War is not one to hold up as a paragon of success. The results, thus far: five years; one trillion dollars (borrowed from China); 4000 dead Americans; 30,000 maimed Americans; hundreds of thousands of dead Iraqis (Oh, but that's OK, because they are sub-human, not worthy of mention); millions of Iraqi refugees who have fled to squalid camps in such great places as Jordan, Egypt, Syria; hundreds of thousands of the most skilled Iraqis have fled to other Middle Eastern countries and Europe; the infrastructure of the country has been destroyed; corrupt Iraqi military and police forces that are in place only because Americans are paying them; one-half of the population (women) now subjected to the humiliation and degradation of Islamic law (which was not at all the case under Saddam); before the American "improvements," there was no Al-Quita in Iraq -- now they're everywhere. But, if you like to live in a place where the water supplies are now horribly polluted and electricity is available a couple of hours a day, if at all, then the Americanized version of Iraq for you. Hey, Mr. Jet, try it, you'll like it!

dani

TheKnave..you need to do research on the current Iraq situation. It's a little different than that.

The Knave

OK, dani, why don't you give us all the benefit of your marvelously enlightened and informed perspective, and tell us how "It's a little different than that?" Please, no "government sources," or Hannity or Limbaugh (which are the same as government sources).

cloyd1961

I think much of Knaves information is from unreliable sources. Many of the charges remind me of the mainstream media's news broadcasts over the past few years. None of their broadcasts recently have spewed this type of gloom and doom since the troops are doing such a wonderful job. I wish the war had been fought in the beginning the way it has been fought the past year. History often repeats itself, maybe not exactly but close enough. Abe Lincoln went through McClellan, Burnside, Hooker, and Meade, before appointing Gen Grant. Bush has gone through a few generals before the current Gen D. Petraeus, who seems to be winning the war. I often wonder why the mainstream media does not report success as often as they used to report perceived failure. Do Liberals honestly believe that war is NOT sometimes required? War is hell and has many negatives associated with it. To survive and have our way of life survive, war is sometimes the only alternative. Remember, Diplomacy was attempted during the Clinton Adm and before the Iraq war with Bush, it failed because the enemy did not believe the American people would allow a war. They thought this because the media led them to think this.

Bizarro

Well since WWII the military has not been attracting the best or brightest individuals to military service. You can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear. Technology has been promoted to offset the shortcomings of the troops. Some have taken advantage of the military to pay for their education-college, medical school, etc., because of financial shortcomings, but generally it attracts many misfits and individuals who don't have a clue.

The Knave

RE: "I think much of Knaves information is from unreliable sources." The heart of the problem, cloyd1961, is that you are not thinking. You are obviously well placed in the "piously convicted, marginally informed" group of arm-chair, war-mongering cheer-leaders and dog-packers, upon whom the Republi-cons, particularly the likes of The Shrub and Tricky Dickey, depend to sustain their craziness (the Demon-rats are no better). Your ilk always seems to resort to a "liberal vs. conservative" or "Republi-con vs. Demon-rat" canard that is so shallow and meaningless. What don't you understand about the fact that this Republic has been driven into an economic/financial/moral black hole by these criminals? To think that the American empire and jack-booted approach to dealing with others can be sustained, while the economic underpinnings are being destroyed, is fantasy. To be in the American manufacturing business today probably means that you are manufacturing some implement of war, because there's not much else left. So, while you and your fellow travelers are fiddling about the glories of the Empire of the USA invading other sovereign states, the Empire is burning.

have u heard of a crazy thing called online school, dani? education is something that should be afforded to everyone. i pay for my education, and i face challenges since i am married. so what? everyone still deserves an education. i would love to see more colleges being built. we can make room by tearing down the jails.

GET REAL1

What BS.

Cloyd remember Clinton passed H.R. 4655 demanding regime change before Operation Desert Fox. Congress followed by making regime change in Iraq law (the Iraq Libeation Act of 1998). Bush acted on the law-bad timing to be sure, however Congress did authorize the Iraq War resolution. If we are going to play the blame game we have to blame:Clinton, Bush, all of Congress, and our inept intelligence agencies. Just about every Rep and Dem in Congress has made statements of WMD's, nuclear threat, etc by Saddam. Remember Tenet's slam dunk. Our govt is obviously incompetent and perhaps we should overthrow our own govt and try them all for war crimes and a general trend of failure or inaction. Jeezzzz.

cloyd1961

Knave, I feel my comments directed to you were a waste of my time. I wish you would have given some intelligent input on those issues. Your ideas have nothing to do with the current topic. To actually believe the things you write must make you a very unhappy individual. My thinking is related to the topic at hand not some "America is going down the drain" and "Blame America for everything" thinking. I respect your right to think the way you do but I don't have to respect nor agree with what you think.

Good day!
