AUGUSTA, Ga. - SFC Edward N. Shelton, 85, entered into rest Monday, February 25, 2008 at his residence. Mr. Shelton was born in Danville, Virginia and has been a resident of Augusta since shortly before his retirement from the Army. He served in the U.S. Navy and retired after 25 years in the U.S. Army serving in WWII, the Korean Conflict, Vietnam and the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW at Large. He loved gardening, particularly flowers and peppers and was an avid collector of clocks. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna Marie Carr and two sons, Barron Joe Ozmore and Karl Heinz Blumel. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Jimmy Fleming officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park with full military honors. B. J. Ozmore, David Ozmore, Joey Plant, Larry Plant, John Tucker, Michael Taylor and Bruce Dansby will serve as honorary pallbearers. Mr. Shelton is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Rhudine F. Shelton; five sons, Edward Lee (Jean) Shelton, North Carolina, Mike H. Shelton, Augusta, Benny (Fran) Shelton, Augusta, Randy Plant and Mark Ozmore, Florida; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
