AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Fred Collier of 1458 Brown Street of Augusta was born to the late Mr. Isaac and Sarah Collier. He was born and raised in Edgefield, S.C. He was a member of the Spring Grove Baptist Church under the guidance of Rev. T. Scott. He was a member of the senior gospel choir. He entered the United States Army in 1942 until 1946 where he served in two combat wars. He met and married Mary E. Molock of Anniston, Ala. and out of this union of 60 years the children, Marva (deceased), Veretta (Johnny), Fredene (Joe), Joseph, Fred, Jr. (Debra), Cora (Peebie), Ronnie, Donnie and Michael Pettersend (Chrystal), Demi, Brandi, Paedra, DeShun, Marva, 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. After 30 years of service Mr. Collier retired from Enterprise Mill on Green Street in Augusta and worked over 20 years at the Augusta National Golf Club, affectionately known as fat jack and bud. He leaves to mourn: sisters, Ida Shannon, Mattie Lofton and Lucille Philpot of Augusta and of New York City, Luvenia Hacker and Rose Artis, Novella Dandridge of St. Petersburg, Fla. and brother, Willie Collier of Washington, D.C. and dedicated cousins, Paul Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Otis and Rose Goldsby and John Newsome. Rev. Thomas Walker will be in charge of services at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church on 1438 Wrightsboro Rd. The wake will be on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Historic Dent's Undertaking Establishment Serving the CSRA Since the 1800's.
