Samples satisfy most appetites at charity luncheon

Patrons of the Aiken Woman's Club Annual Sample and Share Luncheon are instructed to take only a teaspoon of each dish.

One year, Eula Leaber, the event chairwoman, took a friend who wanted to know where they were going to eat after the luncheon. After taking a single spoonful of 62 dishes, "her plate was so full," Ms. Leaber said.

At noon March 8, club members will bring out their best dishes for the event at St. John's United Methodist Church.

Each guest will receive a cookbook filled with recipes presented during the luncheon.

After lunch, there will be a fashion show with items from Stein Mart.

Club members will model the clothes. Several gift baskets also will be auctioned.

Now in its 32nd year, the luncheon has been sponsored by the Aiken Woman's Club for 15 years.

Tickets are $20 each.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Aiken-area charities such as Helping Hands, Habitat for Humanity's Women's Build, Celebration of Character and the Cumbee Center to Assist Abused Persons.

Tickets are available by calling Ms. Leaber at (803) 644-1224.
