GIBSON, Ga. - Mrs. Frances (Frankie) Black Mathis, 82, loving wife of the late Lawrence Mathis, entered into rest Thursday, February 21, 2008 at McDuffie Regional Medical Center, Thomson. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Fellowship Baptist Church with Rev. Carter E. Hudson, Rev. Brian L. Martin and Donnie Guy officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Mathis was a member of Downs Church of God, a native of Washington County, but lived in Glascock Co. most of her life. She is survived by a son, Robert Newt (Velvet) Mathis of Gibson; two daughters, Judy M. (Eddie) Miller of Gibson and Daisy E. (Donnie) Guy of Matthews; two brothers, Willie Black of Sandersville and Robert Black of Gibson; one sister, Martha Williford of Lakeland, Ga. and a very good friend, Mrs. Lorene Markins; six grandsons, Lee Miller, Ric Miller, Josh Guy, Matt Guy, Cody Mathis and Adam Cochran; one great-grandson, Joshua Guy and one great-granddaughter, Morgan Guy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Louise Black; four sisters, Callie Mae Wheeler, Lilly Mae Simpson, Shirley Osborne and Lizzie Poole and one brother, Jake Black. Pallbearers are Lee Miller, Ric Miller, Josh Guy, Larry Mathis, Matt Guy, Michael Wilkerson and Cody Mathis. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery in care of Mrs. Wilma Mathis, P.O. Box 25, Gibson, GA 30810. Sheppard Funeral Home, Gibson, GA is in charge of arrangements.
