Just in time for Valentine's Day, Evans residents Dorthe and Wayne Peloquin got White Chocolate and a 24-pound Fancy valentine.
White Chocolate, a llama, and Fancy, a miniature horse, were delivered by a stork rather than Cupid. The llama was born on Valentine's Day, and the horse was born the day before.
Dr. Peloquin loves llamas, evident from her dangling llama earrings, necklace and T-shirt to her extensive knowledge of breeding and showing of llamas.
The former family physician splits her time between running the small breeding operation of miniature horses and llamas, and training her llamas for show. Their property, dubbed Peloquin's Perch, is home to HF Terry, the 2007 Alpaca and Llama Show Association Grand Champion Light Wool Male llama.
The Peloquin's first llama, Gypsy, was bought as a guard for the 13 pygmy goats the couple was raising. That started their love for llamas.
Dr. Peloquin considered showing miniature horses, but after attending llama and miniature horse shows, she decided to train llamas.
"The llama people seemed like a lot of fun, and the llamas seemed like a lot of fun," Dr. Peloquin said.
The animals stay in the backyard, complete with a pond and a grooming shed.
"We're not fancy, but the animals do get pampered."
