ATLANTA --- Danny Craig moved Monday to the other side of the bench when Gov. Sonny Perdue swore in the former district attorney as the newest judge of Richmond County Superior Court.

Danny Craig raises his hand Monday in the Senate chamber of the Capitol to take the oath of office administered by Gov. Sonny Perdue. Mr. Craig's wife, Crystal Craig, holds the Bible.

"I think good prosecutors makes good judges," Mr. Perdue said. "... When you ask the judicial community across Georgia to name the top D.A. in the state, typically you won't get past three before this next gentleman's name pops up, and that's Danny Craig."

Judge Craig had been district attorney in Augusta since 1993. He won the District Attorney of the Year for Georgia in 2000 and the National Trial Advocacy Award in 2004. He has prosecuted 28 death-penalty cases, more than any other prosecutor in the state.

In the Boy Scouts of America, he rose to the rank of Eagle by age 13 and worked as a McDonald's clerk, pipefitter and accountant while attending night law school. Since he began practicing law in 1979, he has also served as the Municipal Court judge in Grovetown.

His sister, Susan Craig, said there was no doubt he would be wearing judicial robes from the time he was a small boy.

"The consensus is you were born to be a judge," she said.

Judge Craig said that being a prosecutor for 14 years has given him some ideas on how courts should operate and plenty of role models to pattern himself after. But it was his barber on Saturday who also provided some advice: Color within the lines.

"When judges and attorneys stay within the lines, they not only administer a complex judicial system but they honor God," Judge Craig said.

This example of progress
Unpublished

This example of progress should raise many brows, but they seem to have gotten away with it. Using the courts to eliminate political enemies is not legal, unless you're in Pakastan. Wow! This was blatant and in-your-face , but justice has a way to come back and bite 'em. The leadership in this state (ga) is pitiful and this example of success is inconsistent with being "American." And this paper expect to be credible....to whom?

Kudos to Danny Craig he will

Kudos to Danny Craig he will be an excellent judge with character and no doubt serve with sincere honor. One of the true good people who has some dignity in our pathetic waste of a city "Disgusta". Now only if Sonny Perdue could grant Judge Craig judicial power to lock up the the nitwits on the Augusta City Council and throw away the key. Then maybe "Disgusta" could become Augusta once again. The beautiful Garden City it once was!

Just anothr "Good ole boy"

Just anothr "Good ole boy" placed on the bench. While some may like this particular man, just as many do not. Danny Craig will uphold Danny Graig's law, forget about the US and GA Constitutions and the Bill of Rights.

Mable, you couldn't be more

Mable, you couldn't be more wrong. It is obvious that you do not know Mr. Craig. I have seen him in action in the court system and know him and his family in the community. He never ceased to amaze me when he spoke about law. There is no better candidate to have received this honor than Danny Craig. Congratulation to him and his family.

Did anyone ever ask Danny

Did anyone ever ask Danny Craig if he knowingly prosecutes innocent people? It doesn't matter because Sonny only promotes his low level types. We need honest people running our courts, states and country but that will never happen.

I've known Danny Craig since

I've known Danny Craig since he was a child. There is no man I know on this earth that is more qualified for this job. He is a man of character, integrity, compassion and intelligence. The choice of this man gives me hope for the system.

To the disgruntled supporters

To the disgruntled supporters for Danny Craig; you may not like my opinion, but that's how I see him. Have I seen him "in action?' Who hasn't? He's a ditz and I don't care how you wish to paint him, Danny Craig does not uphold the law unless it's for one of his own.

mable8 says, "Danny Craig will uphold Danny Graig's law, forget about the US and GA Constitutions and the Bill of Rights" and "Danny Craig does not uphold the law unless it's for one of his own." You have proof of this, correct?

"Did anyone ever ask Danny

"Did anyone ever ask Danny Craig if he knowingly prosecutes innocent people?" Does he? And there is evidence of this? If there is proof of this, was it reported? It is hard to "knowingly" prosecute "innocent" people. The way the system is set up, a prosecutor would have a tough time running roughshod over an "innocent" defendant.
