Ruby I. Patterson (EVANS, Ga.)

EVANS, Ga. - Mrs. Ruby Patterson entered into rest at 12:45 a.m., February 15, 2008 at The Place on Stevens Creek. Mrs. Patterson, a lifetime resident of Transfer, PA, has resided with her daughter, Jacquelyn Clary of Evans, for the past several years. Mrs. Patterson was born in Cambria County, Pennsylvania in 1931. She graduated from Portage High School in 1949 and Mt. Aloysius College in 1951. She worked in the medical field at Sharon General Hospital, ran an outpatient medical clinic for Drs. Wooding and Stout and retired from Youngstown Hospitals as a blood bank technician. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Martha Benton of Portage, PA and a brother, Curtis Benton. She is survived by three children: Jacque Clary (Michael) of Evans, GA, Scott Patterson (Darlene) of Fredonia, PA and Martha Henck (Charles) of Transfer, PA; six grandchildren: Ben and Ethan Patterson of Fredonia, PA, Travis Heck of Transfer, PA and Crystal, Christi and John Clary and three great grandchildren: Dylan Walker, Devin Clary and Hailey Stoume, all of Evans. Also surviving is Jack Patterson of Masury, Ohio and James Benton (Dorothy), brother, of Transfer, PA. Mrs. Patterson was an avid breeder of show dogs and often boasted of owning one of the first Akitas imported from Japan and hosting the first AKC sanctioned show for Clumber Spaniels upon admittance of the breed to the AKC. During her lifetime she bred many champions including Basset Hounds, St. Bernard's and American Foxhounds. You would have been likely to see her showing her pride animals on any given weekend. A memorial service will be held for her April 6, 2008 in Transfer, Pennsylvania. The family requests that donations be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Research Foundation, 225 N.
