AUGUSTA, Ga. - Jeanne Lee Butt, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away February 13, 2008 at Kentwood Nursing Home in Augusta. Born on October 3, 1920, in Lake Butler, Florida to Dr. and Mrs. W.H. Lee, she remembered the first model-T ford that came to town and was issued a driver's license as a teen without any exam! Jeanne graduated from Agnes Scott College, majoring in math and psychology. While in Atlanta, she met Robert Frost, rode street cars, read the first edition of Gone with the Wind and stayed in her dorm room all day listening to the radio broadcast reporting the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Following graduation and during World War II: she worked at Camp Blanding and then later at the University of Florida, where she met her husband. She married J. Nixon Butt, III, Orlando attorney, who preceded her in death in 1985 after 38 years of marriage. Jeanne was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Orlando for over 50 years. She was also a member of The Junior League and The Rosalind Club. A mother and homemaker for many years, she worked as head bookkeeper for the former Skyline Restaurant at the Orlando Airport after her children were grown. In 2005, Jeanne moved to Augusta to be near her children and grandchildren. Jeanne is survived by her son, J. Nixon Butt, IV and daughter-in-law, Andrea C. Butt of Augusta; her daughter, Pauline B. McLemore, of Lookout Mountain, Ga.; three granddaughters, Jeanne Adair B. Smith and her husband, Tyler Conrad Smith, Allison Lee Butt, Caroline Abigail Butt; a grandson, Wayne Hartridge McLemore and a great-grandson, Conrad Nixon Smith, whom she held for the first time this past Christmas. Jeanne will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery in Orlando, Fla. at a sunset graveside service on Thursday, February 21 at 5:30 p.m. and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held in Augusta at Kentwood Nursing Home, 1227 West Wheeler Parkway on Tuesday, February 26 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jeanne's name, to the Joseph D.
