GROVETOWN, Ga. - Patricia Rowley McCarten, 85, of Grovetown, Ga., entered into eternal rest on February 9, 2008 following a long illness. Mrs. McCarten was born in Marshalltown, Iowa to Dean and Marjorie Rowley. She attended the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Iowa in Iowa City, majoring in journalism. She met and married Robert McCarten who was in Naval Flight Training School at the time. The couple lived in many states until Mr. McCarten retired from the Coast Guard in 1971. They remained in Dubuque, Iowa for nearly 30 years, where Mrs. McCarten was a volunteer at Mercy Medical Center for more than 25 years. They moved to Grovetown, Ga. in 2000. She is survived by her husband; daughters, Mary (Michael) Lusson of Raleigh, N.C., Terry (Robert) Sisk of St. Augustine, Fla. and Augusta, Ga. and Maggie McCarten of Augusta. She had two grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Rowley; her son, Patrick McCarten; and her son-in-law, Robert Sisk. A Memorial Mass was held Monday, February 11, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 4921 Columbia Road, Grovetown, GA 30813.
