Firefighters fend off three blazes in woods

Firefighters fought three separate woods fires in south Augusta on Sunday afternoon. One resulted in the loss of a storage trailer.

Two of the fires occurred within a mile of each other, said Augusta Fire Department Battalion Cary Russell. At 2:30 p.m., firefighters were called to the 2900 block of Glenn Hills Drive after receiving reports about fires in the area.

Within hours, firefighters were called to the 2900 block of Byron Place near Windsor Spring Road and Clark Road in McBean, said Battalion Chief Steve Bell. All three fires were contained by late Sunday, he said.

RICHMOND COUNTY

- Closures will vary in the east and westbound lanes of Interstate 20 to the west of the Belair Road exit this week. The closures will occur from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

- Crews will be replacing a broken rail at a crossing on a small access road that leads from Greene to Ellis streets Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. No traffic will be detoured but drivers may avoid the area by using Broad Street or Walton Way.

COLUMBIA COUNTY

- One westbound lane of Washington Road from Flowing Wells Road to Club Car Drive will be closed Tuesday, with the possibility of closures for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The closure will last from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. while crews work to add a center turn lane.

wandasig97 Your are right.

wandasig97 Your are right. A lot more stuff is happening than is reported. It's never more than a small sample of the reports. There is not enough time or space in the paper to report everything that happens every day. You would have to go to the records department and ask for the public records if you are looking for something in particular.

Monday is usually a slow news

Monday is usually a slow news day. Some reporters take Sunday off for some family time. If something important had happened, something the public needs to know, I feel sure it would have been in the morning edition of the AC>

With this new format thanks to the Aug Chronicle, we are now privileged to have disorganization and no news. Anyone see how it's laid out? Yikes!

sexybrownsugar, who is

sexybrownsugar, who is making excuses? And who is riding around South Augusta killing "peoples" Saturday? We had a guy whose address is listed as Waynesboro, stab the Hartley's off Mike Padgett Hwy, on Bennock Mill Road, who had someone helping him named Lawanda Haskell, who lives in Hephzibah near Fort Gordon and who somehow ended up arrested in a wooded lot where Bungalow Road and Richmond Hill Road meet, which is near the intersection of Gordon Highway and Deans Bridge, so that one location could be considered the southern part of Augusta, not so much the other locations. I would describe Hephzibah, Waynesboro, and Bennock Mill Road south OF Augusta, or southern Richmond County to be more precise. Is that what you are talking about?
