Winter Jam

This year's Winter Jam will begin about 6:20 p.m. today at James Brown Arena, 601 Seventh St., and will feature BarlowGirl, MercyMe, NewSong, Skillet, Echoing Angels, Group 1 Crew, pureNRG, Real Encounter's Xtreme BMX/Skate Team and guest speaker Tony Nolan. Sorry, Socrates

Art appraisals

The Morris Museum of Art's affiliate groups, the Morris 100 and Friends of African American Art, will present the museum's biennial Appraisal Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the museum, 1 10th St. Experts from the Neal Auction Co. of New Orleans will offer appraisals of art and antiques. Drive safely

An AARP driver safety class will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday and Wednesday at the Henry Brigham Senior Center, 2456 Golden Camp Road. No test will be given, but there is a $10 registration fee. Call (706) 790-8824.

'Shrew' is coming

The American Shakespeare Center's international touring division will present The Taming of the Shrew at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Grover C. Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre at Augusta State University, 2500 Walton Way. Admission to this Lyceum Series event is free with a JagCard; tickets for the general public cost $7. Luncheon at Laney

The Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History will hold its next monthly luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the museum, 1116 Philips St. The keynote speaker will be Richmond County State Court Judge David Watkins. The luncheon is $7. To make reservations, call (706) 724-3576.

Scholarship gala

The second Thomas L Clark III Scholarship Fund gala will be held Sunday at Greater Young Zion Baptist Church, 405 Sand Bar Ferry Road.

At last year's event, four scholarships were awarded to Laney High School graduates.

Mr. Clark, a musician, volunteered as a drum-line coach at Laney. He died in February 2007 at age 32.
