Fort Discovery is looking for more volunteers.
"Our mission is to excite our youth on science and math. We do a good job of that but we need more volunteers to help us," said Kathy Thibault, Fort Discovery's volunteer coordinator.
The science center has 25 volunteers and needs at least 25 more, she said.
Volunteers may help in a variety of positions, including: bus greeter, camp-in aide, clerical assistant, exhibit technician or developer, greeter, explainer, IT assistant, Kidscape assistant, planetarium assistant, science demonstrator, science store clerk and science-to-go assistant.
Volunteers may also assist with maintenance, summer camps, special events and the teacher resource center.
"It's a great opportunity for a college student who may need to do an internship or a senior citizen who wants to give back to the community," she said. "Volunteers don't have to be a scientist to do this, just as long as they like the public and want to help."
Volunteers must be at least 14 years old, work one four-hour shift a month for at least three months, attend orientation and training and become knowledgeable about the volunteer handbook.
Minors must obtain their parents' permission before volunteering. Children younger than 14 may volunteer with a parent.
All volunteers will be interviewed before placement in a volunteer position, Ms. Thibault said.
