ATTALLA, Ala. - Robert Eldredge Jones, age 81, of Attalla, Ala., passed away February 2, 2008. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel with Rev. Larry Garrard officiating. Burial will follow in Conn Cemetery. Pallbearers are nephews, William, Stacy, Greg, Stanley, Derreck, Anthony, Jeff, and Mike Jones. Honorary Pallbearers are Bill Ryan, Billy King, Fenton Ryan, Edward Oliver, and Fred Fleming. Mr. Jones was a Veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Freestone. Every year he would attend their Navy reunion. He retired in 1984 from the Savannah River Plant in Aiken, S.C. after 32 years of service. While working at the Savannah River Plant, he lived in Jackson, S.C. Mr. Jones served with distinction for six years on the Board of Directors of the Savannah River Plant Credit Union. He loved to travel and did a lot of traveling after retirement with special friends, Milton and Janice Rollins. Mr. Jones was dearly loved by his grandchildren and they affectionately called him "Big Daddy." He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lute and Martha McCrickard; father and mother, Joe and Viola Jones; brothers, Albert and Shely Jones; and grandson, Scott Leland Moore. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Oliver Jones; sons, Robert E. (Karen) Jones, Jr. and Albert Bernard (Christine) Jones; daughter, Sharon Sue (Jimmy) Mims; grandchildren, Robert E. (Leigh) Jones, III, Holly Adele (Michael) Godwin, Calley Lane Jones, Colin Ray Jones, Amanda Brooke (Jacob) Marchlewski, James Barrett Mims, Charlotte Lindsay Mims, and Shannon Renee Key; eight great-grandchildren; and brothers, Claude (Joyce) Jones, John (Teen) Jones, and Lenard (Sharon) Jones.
