Future leaders must be God-fearing

  • Follow Letters

Hopefully, 2008 will be a better year for all of us.

There are a lot of things happening this year so far. We have several new members of the Augusta Commission -- better known as the city zoo. Former commissioners Marion Williams and Andy Cheek have run away (thank God for miracles!).

We also have several people running for president. We must have a president who is God-fearing and who strongly believes in prayer and miracles -- putting God first, and back in our lives. May our new president be a Christian who reads the Bible daily.

We all know we need to pray daily, and ask God to forgive our wrongdoings. Everyone knows this country has gone to the dogs because God has been taken out of our daily lives, thanks to illicit government evildoers, and Hollywood having to use sex to entertain. Ninety percent of all TV programs seem to display sex to get viewers to watch!

We are supposed to be "one nation under God," not one nation without God. You must be blind if you can't see that we're all living in the final days.

Parental rights must be restored to parents; children shouldn't tell parents what to do and where to go. We have judges who don't take into consideration the feeling of victims or their families. We have crooked lawyers and politicians who lie to us just to get in office, then shut the doors on us once they're in.

We need God-fearing leaders who will run this country as it should be, and put God back into our schools.

Well said Tina Well said. God is in charge always has and always will be. This country has chosen to throw Him to the side of the road and now we face His wrath. Pray for His forgiveness and His mercy and only then will we see change for the better in this country.

Bizarro

It takes God fearing people to elect God fearing people. Then there is which god are you referring to-Allah, Shiva, etc. What if Obama was elected and converted to Islam? What if Hillary were elected and she came out of the closet as an atheist? What if McCain started thinking he was God from PTSD? Revelations says in the end times all the governmental leaders will be demonic. Bush fits that bill to many.

christian134

Then Bizarro we who believe will be saved from what comes next. But until then we continue to live and spread the Good News of God and Jesus Christ.

shivas

This is letter sounds like an endorsement for Obama. However, why do we need a God to fear?

christian134

If you read your Bible you will learn a thing or two shivas. God is powerful, maker of heaven and earth not to fear is tantamount to saying man is greater just because he is man. Fear is a healthy thing if used in the proper way. the Bible states Fear of God is the beginning of Wisdom.

Bizarro

It should be unconstitutional to even ask a Presidential contender "what is their religion if any". Bush is supposed to be a God fearing man. Saying your a Christian doesn't really mean a whole lot. I'd rather examine that from their actions. This is a nation that God has promised to destroy also. God endowed us with a free will. I can't tell any difference from the free will of a christian from a non-christian. Both sin. In fact divorce is higher in christians than non-christians. I have been taken advantage of by more christians than non-christians so anyone who announces their faith is a red light for caution. I really don't think God wants to be dragged into politics-his son surely didn't care for social or governmental issues. The least reasons for someone to become a christian are: Fear that you are going to hell, Joy you will have eternal life. Those are side issues-it is all about a relationship.

christian134

Read the whole Bible it really is a plan for living now and into eternity. fd1962 nope am not aching at all :)

Shivas, that is just over the top arrogant and just plain stupid. You're an atheist I gather....ok...but what if you're wrong? You just called out the supreme being in existence. Not a smart move.

christian134

My composure does crack fd1962 at times. That is why I stay in prayer constantly. I will not argue the point although I will say no one knows when Jesus is coming but the God Himself. God does say that if we just turn back to God Jesus Christ we will find all the hope, peace and contentment in a world that has gone beyond madness.

He_Who_Must_Not_Be_Named

Bizarro, making it unconstitutional to ask a presidential candidate about their religion, would in fact be unconstitutional.

good letter Tina. Jesus Christ is the answer to all things. In this country we have begun to reap as we have sown. The Christian can take comfort that it won't come near their dwelling. You are a chosen race, a special people. All battles are won in the Spiritual before you see them in the natural. Prayer is the weapon of choice. Keep speaking out and you will make a difference. Expose the rotten seed that the heathen's sow and the hot sun will destroy the seed. Sin must have darkness to thrive. Tina continue to be a light in the darkness.

shivas

HWMNBN, how did I call out the supreme being? I am Episcopalean and we believe in finding God in all things and all people. We also believe we are all in a personal journey to understand God in our lives. We are not taught to fear God, but to love God with all our heart, mind and soul. Those who speak of a fear based God have thier own beliefs that are not consistent with mine. And, I believe in separating God from politics. He really isn't a Republican!

Religion needs to stay out of politics and politics needs to stay out of religion or else both things would become corrupt. It's the way the framers wanted it. The framers also wanted to keep the U.S. from adopting an official religion. So everyone could practice freely without persecution and intimidation.

Bizarro

We agree shivas. God is not selecting our leaders-we are, and doing a terrible job I might add. We should work out our salvation with fear and trembling, but it is a different kind of "fear". If we fear God like muslims fear Allah then we are in trouble. It like the fear of knowing your father's punishment-he loves you and wants what is best-not he will kill you and send you to hell. I doubt on judgment day God will ask if you were a Rep or Dem. If so I'm in trouble-I'm an independent. I guess we go to purgatory-limbo.

I'm voting for Huckabee.

I cant understand how a Christian can be a democrat. How could a Christian ever believe killing babies is okay and the gay lifestyle is okay. If we are His child He said we will obey his commands. It is just strange.

mommie2

Christians are also supposed to not judge others for their lifestyle.

Bizarro is on the right track. "Fear", in this context, means "respect"; respecting that God is above us in all ways, and is therefore to be obeyed. I loved my earthly father, but I can tell you that I had a very healthy fear of him if I chose to disobey. That "fear" kept me out of a lot of trouble. So, a little fear can be a good thing. Those who have this "healthy fear" of God do not love God less. These emotions are very complimentary. Try to clear up a misconception: the purpose of God is NOT to lead us to greater good. God's purpose for us is to KNOW Him, and in the process save us from the punishment we deserve. A healthy by-product of this process should be "good works" from us, but that is only a by-product. Christianity is not about good works -- remember, the Bible says that none of us are good at all. That may offend some, but Jesus has been offending people for centuries. Truth often does that. We are to love God with all our being, but such love will be evidenced by our obedience to His word. If we fail in this regard, then we may indeed need a good dose of the "fear of the Lord".

Who is judging; God made the standard and told it to us in His Word. I either do it or I don't. We all sin but to celebrate it and call it good is making ourselves god.

howcanweknow

Christians are REQUIRED to judge everything. That one verse about "judge not" is pulled out of context by everyone -- especially those who don't want someone telling them what to do. Go back and read the passage in its entirety. What it is saying is that BEFORE you judge someone else's behavior or activity, first take care of your own problem (get it out of your own eye). Only then, will you be able to clearly see the problem in your brother and help him. So, YES, Christians are commanded to judge the lifestyle of others in comparison to the standard of God's word. Loving someone means helping them to correct a problem in their life. It's not being judgmental, it's being compassionate.

That's your opinion, purvis. You remind me of my mother - religion in government is grand, wonderful, the way it should be - unless, of course, you're talking about Islam, or Hindu - then there should be separation of church and state. I am not in favor of living in a theocracy.

People get confused on judging. The Bible says out of the abundance of the heart man speaks. We don't judge the heart of another but listen to their words and you know their heart. Then we look at the fruit a life bears. Good trees give good fruit and bad trees give bad fruit. Without doing any judging you know the heart of other and you see their fruit. That is all you need to know to be wise about other people. God made life so simple we have to get help to misunderstand people or things.

He_Who_Must_Not_Be_Named

Umm again you seem to be having trouble remembering what you wrote Shivas. You said" Why do we need a God to fear". Maybe I'm reading too much into that but I took it as either you don't believe in God or don't fear him.

howcanweknow

P.I. is right on target. Your fruits show your roots. You don't need a Ph.D. in theology to "judge" action or lifestyle. It will be obvious. Again, if someone claims to be a Christian but lives a lifestyle that contradicts Christian principles, there is a problem. Helping them see their hypocrisy is not being judgmental, but should be a way to encourage them. I'd welcome such wise advice or "judgment" for my life. I know I'm not perfect and don't have all the answers.

mommie2

But who has the authority to judge what's right and what is wrong? It's all subjective.
