AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Courtney Calvert, 83, beloved husband of Elizabeth "Betty" Calvert, entered into rest Friday, February 1, 2008, at Doctors Hospital. Mr. Calvert was a native of Flint, Michigan. Mr. Calvert was a proud graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and General Motors Institute. He spent much of his career as a controller with Sears, Roebuck & Co. After retirement from Sears, Mr. Calvert served as a Financial Planner. His community service activities included serving on the board and as President of Goodwill Industries in Flint. He was instrumental in the formation of the Eastern Michigan Hockey Association. He also served on the board at Burns Memorial United Methodist Church in Augusta. With love and gratitude, he is remembered for his kindness, contributions and infectious sense of humor by his family which includes: two daughters: Gail (Glen) Anderson of Wrens, Kathleen (Gray) Moore of Augusta; three sons: Craig (Beverly) Calvert of Augusta, John (Kimberly) Calvert of Flushing, Michigan, Philip (Ana Maria) Calvert of Cumming, Georgia; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, February 4, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Rev. Bill Burch officiating. Memorials may be made to Burns Memorial United Methodist Church, 2372 Lumpkin Rd., Augusta, GA 30906.
